“The Door Has Never Been Locked”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Don't miss the Oxford, a true Missoula landmark. When I was an undergraduate at the University of Montana in the late '60s, we would go to the Ox for breakfast after the bars closed. Back in the day, when someone ordered Brains and Eggs, the specialty of the house, the wait-person would call out, "He wants 'em!" Alas, Brains and Eggs are not on the menu any more. Nowadays, when I take out-of-town visitors here for lunch, I order the House Omelette; the omelette is big and tasty, and, yes, kind of greasy. The Ox is a greasy spoon, after all.

“Oldest Bar in Missoula”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

If you want to see drunks and more drunks this is the place. Most customers are missing some teeth and haven't seen a bath tub for some time. On the other hand everybody has to be some place.

“Make yourself stay and eat”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

This place is on sort of a hipster main drag in Missoula and from the outside it might look like it fits in. It doesn't. I doubt this place has a Thursday night $1 PBR special but it does have a kick butt jukebox with Zepplin, Pearl Jam, Joe Walsh, Stones etc., $5 1/2 lb. burgers cooked to perfection, cheap premium liquor and a live poker table with a bunch of 80 year old guys looking for, well...let's say new "students". It cannot get any better than this if you just want good burgers, great service and no BS.

“You'd better be drunk.”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

The Oxford has been around Missoula forever and is somewhat infamous. Generally one goes in there drunk already or getting drunk in order to order the JJ's Special, chicken fried steak covered in pink gravy. It's awesome at the time but tends to make your hangover even worse the next day.

“Scary Food, Scary People”
Reviewed May 24, 2012

Food wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. I also watched a young fellow waiting patiently for people to talk to him. Whenever they did, the young man would follow them outside and return alone within minutes. Kinda seemed like a drug deal.
