This Italian style restaurant is very special. I have had salads which were excellent for lunch; and dinner there several times; it was superb on each occasion. Great selection of Italian wines and their ice cream is fabulous. When it gets busy it can get pretty noisy. They do, however, have a nice outdoor patio area where one can eat.

We waited patiently for some time. As interstate travellers, we had no problem FINDING Cafe Dolce. The problem was being 'noticed' or 'acknowledged' by greeting staff. Sign said 'WAIT' to be seated. Plenty of empty spaces inside & out, but chaotic efforts at clearing & 'turning' those tables? Eventually a harried employee approached with a warning that it could be 30 minutes before we could be seated. Obviously a dedicated local following, but a strange careless attitude to take with visitors, so we excused ourselves and enjoyed a great evening nearby at "Bob's Biga". Could not have been different chez BOB: A warm welcome, seated promptly, & looked after royally. IF 30 minute waits are common at Dolce, may we suggest a different method?: a bench or seats to wait? a blackboard to write one's names in order of 'service to come', or something than 'ignoring one's presence' possibly?

Dear Dolce Visitor:

I just today read your Trip Advisor post with regret of your experience and resulting perspective of Caffe Dolce in Missoula. We exist to provide outstanding food and service-- and I'm sorry that that was not conveyed to you at the door. Please be assured that empty tables are a reflection of pending reservations, and that a bustle surrounding bussing and seating could reflect a sincere attempt to hurry the re-setting of the room after a significant rush. Regardless of the reasons, the customer should always be put at ease and be assured that they matter, and I'm sorry this was not the case with you.
Should you ever return to Missoula, and if you remain interested in trying out Dolce, please let me know and your meal will be my compliments. I'm also happy to have a reservation for you so your table will be waiting for you.

Sincerely,

Peter Lambros

Cafe Dolce is a one-of-a-kind gem! It's in the middle of a residential neighborhood and may be a bit hard to find if you're an Interstate traveler. Worth the effort, though. Great Italian cuisine at dinner, also good looking breakfast and lunch menus. Be prepared to be awestruck by the interior, a spectacular two story rise. Can be kind of noisy but the experience (and the food) make this a place you'll be talking about for some time.

When you think of Montana you tend to think of Steak n potatoes. However I discovered a fantastic slice of Italian heaven in Missoula! I had the Papporelle Ragu beef for supper and it was nothing short of a flavorful Italian moment I was not expecting! It's open dining area is buzzing with the chatter of happy patrons and the staff is knowledgeable and very pleasant!
Do not miss this out of the way experience!

Don't go around noon. There are no parking spaces left and you have to park around the block, wherever you can find a place. Sandwiches are delicious, but it seemed a bit pricey. As good as it was, I would probably try other places before returning.
