Owner description: Located at one of Montana's first military posts, this museum houses rotating exhibits and devotes an entire wing to the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps. A recreated Western town of the late 1800s takes visitors back in time to the days of carriage houses and homestead cabins.

A trip to the fort can be a short visit. It should only take you about an hour to go through the exhibits and buildings. Bring your camera and walking shoes. There is about 18 structures you can walk around and look at. Some you can go into, some you can't. I really liked the Drummond Depot with the biggest model working railroad exhibit I've ever seen. The workmanship is astounding. The old machinery, train, cars, sawmill and all things related to logging was interesting to see. And, if you wanted, there is a Military Museum near the grounds you can visit.

I loved visiting the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula. The exhibits
were hands on, and while I was there an archeological dig was going on across the road from the museum! Besides the main building, the other buildings on the museum grounds were interesting, including the
new tipi burner and old school house. What I didn't know about the area was the25th Infantry/ Black Bicycle Corps trip that the military
took to St. Louis in the 1890's and about the use of Fort Missoula during WWII as an Alien Detention Center, housing a couple thousand Italians and Japanese! Well done and fun!
