The Murray is very convenient as a home base for seeing the lively town of Livingston, Montana, which is about an hour from an entrance to Yellowstone Park. It's easy walking to a movie theater, restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores and galleries. The Bistro restaurant adjacent to the Murray serves delicious food and drinks.
They do supply you with earplugs since the train does go by periodically, but it didn't bother us at all and our room was on the train side.
Overall, a very comfortable hotel, filled with fascinating historical memorabilia.

Went with a bunch of friends for New Years. Went to the in house restaraunt. Then they had a good band downstairs but we just had a fun time hanging out in one of the decent size suites.

Room Tip: The rooms are all nice that I can tell. Try not to get right over the bar. Its worth getting one o...

We would never have even thought about staying here, if it wasn't for the "Get Lost in Montana" promotion on the airwaves here in Alberta.

A wonderful surprise, really authentic decor, a great meal deal with the Bistro next door, and the chance to "live" the old west.

Room Tip: The Murray Hotel was (is) a railroad hotel, across from the main station. There are trains.

We had a wonderful time staying at the Murray Hotel this weekend. I would definitely recommend it if you are staying to have a good time at the Murray Bar or partying it up in Livingston, but if you are looking for a good night's rest, I might pass. They give you earplugs in the rooms for a reason. VERY LOUD. The building is old and full of character, which I believe is why the walls are paper thin. Overall, however, the hotel has great amenities. Wonderful beds, very clean, charm, and flat screen TVs. The shower drain was a little plugged. Overall, I would probably stay again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room as far away from the bar as possible.

Beautiful rooms, appointed in an elegant manner. So cozy and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Craftily located near theater, bookstore and bistros with attached dining room and lounge.

Room Tip: The room had a separate kitchen/kitchenette and sitting area and bedroom/bath. Beautiful bedroom, c...

Traveling with my 9-y-o son for a camping trip in Yellowstone. Wanted a night of warmth and luxury before 3 nights in a tent.

Hotel is an 100-year-timewrap, but with modern luxuries and clean rooms. For my son, it was his first visit to a historic hotel property and I tried to give him a picture of how American's vacationed a century before. You know what would top it off, if the staff dressed in 19th century attire.

Upgraded at check in to a 2 room suite which gave us a nice parlor and kitchenette to enjoy. This is always a nice option when traveling with younger children who go to bed earlier.

The elevator is a problem, it can only be run by hotel staff, we used it to take our bags up, it was quaint, but we used the stairs to walk down for dinner (adjacent on the ground floor) and back up, it wasn't an issue going to the 4th floor for us.

Parked on the street, locked up gear to keep honest people honest, but wasn't overly concerned about security.

I would recommend and will use again on our next trip to America's Greatest National Park.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here with our two large dogs in July 2010. (I delayed in writing this review, and my only option was to choose the July 2011 button.) The front desk personnel were very welcoming - we were treated as if we were old friends, not vistors passing through. Livingston has the look and feel of an earlier time and this hotel is one of the main reasons for that authentic experience. Will definitely stay here again if we return to the area.
