“Fab food, sloppy service”
Reviewed October 12, 2010

This is a "found" treasure, and the food is pretty stellar. Portions are also more than reasonable so a good value, too. HOWEVER, if you wait an hour and a half for your first course... even the great bread cannot make up for that sort of PAUSE. The inability of anyone to even say, "Sorry" , just adds to the frustration. This bistro needs a management shake-up and quick before the sloppy, dare I say nonexistent, service sinks this ship. I would still recommend but go midweek rather than weekend.

“Best Dining Experience in Ages”
Reviewed October 9, 2010

I made dinner reservations online weeks before, and it was worth it. We ordered the Fried Okra and Bistro Fries for our appys. The Okra had a buttermilk dip that was excellent. The Fries were done simply with salt and some herbs. My wife and I both had dinner specials. She had the Hunter Chicken and I had the Blue Crab Mac & Cheese. The Chicken was a boneless leg that was braised with mushrooms, onions and peppers; and served over a bed of "smashed" potatoes. The Mac & Cheese had large chunks of crab in a bechamel with provolone cheese and green peas, on penne pasta. My wife said her Creme Brulee was the best she had ever had. The sugar crust was crispy but not tough. The custard was smooth and creamy, but not too sweet. I had the strawberry-lemon tart. It was light and fresh tasting, a perfect finish to a great meal.

“unique in its dedication to quality”
Reviewed October 5, 2010

I had to write again after seeing a couple negative reviews. We are seasonal regulars at 2nd Street; it's wonderful! They're leaders in farm to table and rely heavily on their own gardens and selected producers. Steaks and fish specials can be pricey, and I have no idea what happened with another reviewer's "all the salmon" etc. experience. I generally have one of their superbly balanced salads, then snails ($9.00) or scallops and crawfish risotto ($14) from their small plate menu. Once had incredible FRESH morels and asparagus; that and good bread was all that was needed. It is true that if you want to sit-order-gobble-go, this is not your choice. Why not enjoy a good pineapple jalapeno margarita, do some people watching, and relax for well prepared dishes with first rate ingredients.

“Ate Here Every Night of Vacation”
Reviewed September 8, 2010

We LOVE this restaurant. We ate here each of the three nights we spent at the Murray Hotel, and are still talking about the great meals we had there.

First, the service is great. The staff manages to hit that sweet spot of being efficient, but still very friendly and personable. Second, the wine list is very good and is reasonable. But best of all, the food is outstanding. Between the two of us we had the scallops with risotto, various salads, truffle frites, meatloaf (GREAT), Hutterite chicken, and a burger. The technique of the both the chef and other cooks was great and the ingredients were excellent. Most nights, we had wines by the glass, but we did bring a bottle of our own one night for a $20 corkage.

The restaurant should not be missed. Cannot imagine anyone not enjoying it.

“Gem in Montana”
Reviewed September 5, 2010

On our second trip to Livinston we once again ate at the Secnd Street Bistro and were not disappointed at all! The food is great and very fresh! The service was a little slow but the restaurant was full so it was fine. I had a wonderful cucumber soup and the bistro tenderloin which was delicious!
