“What a Spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2013

The Lodge is at a wonderful location, just outside of Livingston off Rte 89 on the way to Gardiner and the NE entrance to Yellowstone Park between mile 38 and 39. It is on a bluff overlooking the Yellowstone River. I saw deer across the river in a field each of the nights I was there! The view across to farmland, foothills and the Absorka range is breathtaking. Cabin rooms were very clean with modern appliances. No TV in the rooms, although they have new cottages that supposedly have them. You have a small terrace outside your room, riverside where you can enjoy the river views and at night the sound of the river puts you right to sleep! There is a TV room that also has a computer with internet access that is complimentary. A limited menu breakfast is included and I had waffles and omlette for my two. The restaurant is something special, great food, almost leaning towards gourmet. Outside there is a terrace and there is a gas log fire pit on the raised bluff as well as one nearer the river. Yellowstone River float and fishing can be easily arranged. You are 15 minutes from Chico Hot Springs if your tired muscles need a soak!

Room Tip: All rooms and the cottages are A+

We do have a great location. Deer are common, sometimes you can see llamas running around too (not to mention ground squirrels!). Our Absaroka Deluxe cabins do have TV in them, and yes, there is always the Cutthroat Lounge. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and meals while here, and thanks for your compliments!

Everything about the dinner at the lodge was truly fantastic- the wine list, the quality and variety of the food, the presentation and the service. The only reason for the 4 stars (and not 5) is that the cabins didn't impress us at all, especially for what we paid (est. $160/night). Great views of the river but smelled musty and the mattresses were too soft- the cabins felt cramped and the bathroom tiny.

This cabin is between Livingston and Gardiner - out in the middle of nowhere. It is the best place in the area! The cabin is clean and it is a perfect spot for a romantic getwaway or just hanging out with friends & family. Along with the mountain scenery, the Yellowstone River is right behind the cabin making a peaceful ambiance. The management was very attentive and accomodating. We came in later than we expected, but they stilled let us eat in their restaurant. The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly. The chef came out and gave us an appetizer to taste for free. Not only was that classy, it was tasty! The food had excellent flavor and the location is spectacular. YVL made us feel like 1st class. Definitely will go back!!! One hint: Remember to bring your own cooler for snacks and drinks. The restaurant does have adult beverages with a patio outlooking the back; however, the "lounge" is like a lobby or community room. Thank you YVL for your hospitality!!

The stay was fantastic. Not a single thing could have been better. Great staff, great food, great views. Will definitely recommend to friends and family and visit again.
It was a lovely weekend getaway for my boyfriend and I. A short drive over from Bozeman and a stone's throw from Livingston.

We're glad that you were able to visit us for your weekend getaway. Coming in the early Spring is always a good time to visit. We often like to have Spring and Fall specials for just this occasion. Not too far from Bozeman, and a nice drive from Billings. Thanks again!!

YVL is the perfect get away ! We flew into Bozeman on a Thursday and flew out on Sunday. We rented a car from the airport and were on our way! YVL was ideally located in Livingston. We spent a day touring Yellowstone National Park, which by the way, is incredible! The next day we went Fly Fishing 8 miles down the Yellowstone River. Our guide launched the boat right at the Lodge, provided all the gear, and a great lunch! Our final day, before our flight left we went to downtown to Bozeman and had a great breakfast at Nova on Main Street. The Lodge is simple, clean and modern. Very peaceful, with decks, fire pits and amazing view of the mountains, while you watch the river flow from your cabin! As others mentioned, the food is exceptional !

It sounds like you had a great time on your fishing trip. We're always happy to help arrange your vacations activities like fly fishing trips and willing to give advice for your Yellowstone day trips. Thanks for the compliments, the chef likes to know how his fishing boxed lunches tasted. Glad you had a good vacation, come back anytime!

The stretch between Livingston and the north gate of Yellowstone is very sparse on decent dining facilities. Our host at the near-by RV Park provided directions to the Lodge. The sign is obscure and the lodge facilities looked very basic. The restaurant is buried in the rear in an outdoor basement level. After that it is all good! A delightful menu (for Montana), very good service and excellent food - well prepared and served. The wine list nicely compliments the menu. This is a treasure to keep on your return list. Reservations are a good idea. Check their web site.

This little gem was suggested to me by a local and what a terrific place. The cabins are clean, quiet and close enough to the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park to get you into the Lamar Valley shortly after sunup without difficulty. It's also far enough from Gardiner to escape the crowds and noise that comes with them. Unwinding along your very own stretch of the Yellowstone River each night is fantastic. You can fly fish from the bank if you want or take a float trip with one of the dozen great guides in the area. There is also a restaurant paired with the property that produces tremendous meals and has a full wine and bar compliment, but reservations are suggested. The proprietors also make up wonderful breakfasts for you each morning sprinkled with local flavor (berries and such). We totally enjoyed our visit and the lack of TV and telephone made it all the more easy to enjoy the peace and serenity of Paradise Valley.

Room Tip: Cabin #1 is the closest to the wi-fi and shared TV room if you just can't unplug.

We're a small, off-the-beaten-path collection of contemporary cabins and one exceptional five-star gourmet restaurant, tucked along the banks of the Yellowstone River on a ranch style property in the Paradise Valley of Montana.
