The Kootenai Falls and swinging bridge are a great short stop whole traveling through the upper north west part of Montana!

“Don’t forget about the falls!”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

From Kalispell we take 93 North to Eureka and then 37 South to take us along the Eastern shore of Lake Koocanusa, short stop at Libby Dam and then on to Libby, “city of Eagles” where we turn West. The falls are shortly before joining 56.

A short walk (1 mile round trip) from the parking, it’s well worth it. Since everybody ahead of me is talking about the bridge, I’ll just show you the falls(see photo)

About 40 miles round trip will take you from here South on 56 to the Giant Cedars grove and back. All in all, scenic roads and several big nests of Ospreys, I am told they are great anglers!

Thanks to TripAdvisor we stopped here to see the falls and the swinging bridge. We are really glad we stopped. The falls are spectacular and the bridge is fun and thrilling. Make sure you do cross the bridge so you can see the Stromatolite fossils (Pre Cambrian era; 3.2 billion to 600 million years ago) on the other side of the river. They are massive.

“Just a Swinging!!”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

If your legs are strong???? This is something that you want to do! It's not that long of a walk but ii is up and down hill. The rewards are great. I've walked across the bridge and found a herd of Big Horn Sheep grazing. The bridge has all been redone and is very safe. If your knees are not so good there is a view point just a short walk off the Highway. Not the same as being able to walk right down to the Falls. It's a beautiful sight how ever you get to view it :)
