Fun little hike to the Falls and to the Swinging bridge - however wished there was a better restroom - there was just a pit toilet, but you are really out in the woods, so I don't think there is a lot that can be done about that!

“Swinging Bridge, Waterfalls, and a Railroad, Too!”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

If you're in the area, the Swinging Bridge at Kootenai Falls is well worth the stop. However, be forewarned, the large parking area fills up quickly on weekends in the summer. Follow the path from near the signboards towards the primitive restrooms (these smell pretty bad). Keep following the path through the picnic area and over to the top of the stairs. Near here is a viewing area for those who can't do stairs or aren't up to the hike. Go down the stairs and down the switchbacks to the bridge over the train tracks. This is one of the nicest things about the park for some. It's an impressive bridge , and it's ok if you stand on it to watch the trains that go by about every ~45 minutes--sometimes the engineers wave at you, too!

Cross the train bridge, and you'll come to a fork in the path: Right goes to the waterfall, and left to the swinging bridge. The trail to the waterfall is fairly flat although there are some roots, rocks, etc. At the end is a large rock area where you can view part of the falls. The trail to the swinging bridge is longer and much rockier, but it's worth the hike. The bridge is one-way, so you'll probably have to wait your turn to cross if the park is busy. On the other side there are trails; we enjoyed walking back up river a bit to a peaceful, pebbly beach. Overall, highly recommended if you're traveling US Hwy 2 through the area, such as going from Glacier National Park to Washington State.

Something you have to try at least once. This is a lot of fun and very relaxing at the same time, unless you are scared of heights. The views are absolutely breath taking and worth seeing.

“Take a hike!”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

The Kootenai Falls and Swinging Bridge are a neat hiking area near Libby, MT. The falls (featured in the movie "The river Wild") is a short flat hike from the parking lot. The swinging bridge is in the opposite direction from the parking lot and a bit rougher and longer trail to the bridge. Both attractions are good for families. Folks who mind heights may not want to cross the bridge. . A couple of hours is sufficinet to do both. There are rest room facilities and a nice food stand at the parking lot.

“Short hike to a fun bridge and great views.”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

Just outside of Libby, the Kootenai Falls and Swinging Bridge are definitely worth the stop. Short hikes lead you to a swinging bridge over the Kootenai River and to some spectacular falls.
