Kootenai Falls Swinging Bridge

The Kootenai Falls and Swinging Bridge are a neat hiking area near Libby, MT. The falls (featured in the movie "The river Wild") is a short flat hike from the parking lot. The swinging bridge is in the opposite direction from the parking lot and a bit rougher and longer trail to the bridge. Both attractions are good for families. Folks who mind heights may not want to cross the bridge. . A couple of hours is sufficinet to do both. There are rest room facilities and a nice food stand at the parking lot.

Just outside of Libby, the Kootenai Falls and Swinging Bridge are definitely worth the stop. Short hikes lead you to a swinging bridge over the Kootenai River and to some spectacular falls.

We travelled from Whitefish to Seattle through Libby, Montana and were in need of a rest stop. We came upon the Kootenai Falls which is just a pull-off from the highway.

There are two options from the trail - the falls or the swing bridge. My family and I decided to cross the bridge. It's about a 1/4 mile walk from the trailhead and it's very easy to get to.

Once we reached the bridge we read the signs about how dangerous it was and that people died from falling but it all looked safe to us. The bridge is about 100' above the Kootenai river which runs strong. We crossed the bridge carefully as it bounces and swings but it is very safe. We were much more comfortable coming back across and didn't need to hold on.

This is a cool attraction and doesn't take long. It's a great spot to take a break. There are bathrooms there and a snack bar also.

Highly recommend it.
