“Fantastic Bed & Breakfast”
Reviewed August 4, 2011

My wife and I stayed here in July 2011 at the suggestion of some friends that we were visiting. The Sanders was the first B&B in Helena. The entire house has been painstakingly restored with beautiful wood detailing on the interior. The building is on the Register of Historic Places as are many other restored residences in the city.

All of the rooms are beautifully decorated, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was nicely done. The breakfast was also good. The B&B is located in a lovely, tree lined residential neighborhood close to downtown Helena.

What makes the Sanders especially nice are the proprietors Bobbi and Rock who sit with you at breakfast, when not serving you themselves. Rock has a career in running a land conservation trust, and Bobbi runs the B&B. They both are very friendly people and good conversationalists. When we were there, we had the additional pleasure of meeting one of Rock's childhood friends, who works at Carroll College in Helena and visits sometimes in the breakfast hour to take part in the conversation

We also really enjoyed the other guests that were staying there. We met a fascinating group from England and a couple from Baltimore, and the conversation was lively. The latter used to live in Atlanta, our home, and we found that we had many experiences and acquaintances in common.

When we return to Helen, there is no question that we will stay there. This is a quality place.

When planning a trip I like to work in a B&B about once a week. Although my husband usually prefers impersonal hotels, he was delighted with The Sanders and its charming hostess. Guests are greeted with a cold drink (or wine) on arrival along with freshly baked cookies. The breakfast is a total indulgence. We had cream cheese french toast, fresh fruit, coffee, and juice. The mansion was built in 1875 for one of Montana's first US senators. The woodwork is wonderful, as is the decor--totally period. The home is a block from the restored first governor's mansion (open for tours) and convenient to downtown and restaurants.

We stayed for two nights in early July and we just loved this charming place! The innkeeper Bobbi is a genuinely lovely woman. She was so warm and helpful. Our room was large, clean, and updated nicely. The location of the inn is also great, near all the places one would want to visit. It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it!

My husband & I had a wonderful visit to Helena...made even more enjoyable by our stay at this B&B!!! From the moment you arrive at the door - the welcoming is warm, gracious, & invitiing! The house is NOT old & musty (dusty); but, in fact, "immaculate"...the furnishings and decor are wondrous. Great attention is given to every detail!!! We stayed in the "Teddy's Buckaroo" suite, and it was perfect. Breakfast was delightful -- the company was awesome and engaging. My husband & I would highly recommend Sander's B&B to all travelers -- from near & afar. Given the opportunity to visit again - this would be our #1 and only choice in Helena!

Great location and historic house but not very welcoming arriving 15 minutes early and being unable to make contact with anyone after a VERY long journey. The person showing us in didn't introduce herself and we didn't see her again at all after the elegant tea was served in the museum- like lounge, where everyone was on their best behaviour. Our bedroom was superb as was the bathroom. At breakfast we weren't greeted or welcomed in at all by a girl who didn't know or care who we were. It was a very mediocre meal with no top-ups offered or choice available, and no place settings laid for us. We'd expected breakfast to be the high spot of our stay but it all lacked that essential warm, personal and friendly feel that we'd experienced so far on our vacation. But we loved Helena,The Parrot Confectionary and had a great meal 'On Broadway'

We drove down from Calgary to Helena over a weekend for a concert and stayed two nights in the middle of quite a cold snap. Really enjoyed staying in such a unique home, chatting with other guests at breakfast and Bobbi's warm hospitality. She definitely loves doing what she does. She was ultra-concerned with our comfort (they had a small heating problem at the time that didn't bother us at all, but she made sure we were ok).

Helena doesn't seem to have a lot of options outside of chain hotels. If we're ever back in Helena we'll be staying here again. No brainer.

We were on a two-week tour of the Northwest and had been staying in a variety of B&Bs, inns and lodges. Bobbi, our hostess at Sanders, was hands down the best hostess we had during our entire trip. She had a superbly wonderful way of making her guests feel at home and was just an extra bit friendlier and warmer than all the other innkeepers and B&B hosts we had encountered on our trip. This probably had something to do with the fact that she seemed to genuinely enjoy taking care of her guests.

We arrived on a hot afternoon and Bobbi welcomed us with the best lemonade ever. She left cookies, water, ice tea and sherry in the common areas for the guests in the evening. The sherry was a definitely a nice touch and much appreciated after the long drive we took to Helena.

Breakfast was tasty, and pretty. Our room was spacious and well decorated. It also had everything we needed, including cable TV, blow dryer and comfortable beds. The house is quite charming and is located in a neighborhood with lots of other historical buildings. Just down the street, you'll find an old governor's mansion.

We were definitely glad that we stayed here.
