Owner description: Tours are on the hour, starting at 10 AM and ending at 3 PM. Grounds are open from 9 AM to 5 PM. Located on 46 acres of lush landscape, the Daly Mansion is the historic home of 19th Century American industrialist Marcus Daly. The exhibits here convey the story of Daly and his rise from working-class immigrant to copper magnate, as well as local, regional, and international history tied to his extended family. Today, the Mansion is a hub of local culture, entertainment, engagement and historical interpretation. We see nearly 10,000 visitors annually, and a team of over 100 volunteers are dedicated to preserving the grounds and house for the enjoyment of all who enter. The Daly Mansion is a treasure of history and intrigue, and we are thrilled to share it with visitors and community members alike.

We came for the Bitterroot Scottish Irish Festival. During the festival we toured the mansion. Everyone working at the mansion was eager to share it's history and answer questions. We spent the better part of two hours doing a self tour. We will be back to spend more time and learn more about this magnificent place.

The grounds and the mansion are beautifully maintained. The restoration of the mansion has been done very well and true to its past. We attended an event on the lawn and the trees and landscaping were perfect. There was plenty of shade to keep us cool.

* Tour are lead by long-term volunteers who are encouraged to add their own touches to the tour. Our guide, Miss Sally, brought the mansion to life for us by relating personal stories about the Daly family and her experiences with the Mansion. She added plenty of local color and history by retelling stories of other Daly family guests' memories and experiences at the Mansion.
* The house and grounds are in good condition with many of the original furnishings in place. (Apparently, people who once purchased the furnishings at auction return the pieces to the Mansion. Some of the furnishings were in place when the Mansion was turned over to the state.)
* At the end of the tour, guests are allowed to review the displays on the third floor of the home at their own pace
* The tours are relaxed and welcoming. The mainly volunteer staff is enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming.
* Guests are given plenty of time to roam the grounds at their own pace to enjoy the scenery and to inspect the outside of the house, the outlying buildings including the wash house, play house, carriage barn, pool and pool houses ("the plunge).
* Gift shop has a nice selection of local history books.

The Daly Mansion is a beautiful outing for an afternoon any time of year. The grounds are absolutely stunning and the house and out buildings are full of history and well preserved. Check the local paper as there are many times of the year when there are special events like outdoor concerts and wine tastings held at the grounds. It is even worthwhile to drive the couple miles out of town to the grounds, pack a picnic and a good book and enjoy the grounds.

I enjoyed touring the mansion. It was fascinating to see how well the wealthy lived in that era. The Mansion has been well cared for over the years. The grounds are in exceptional condition.
