Owner description: Charlie Russell documented the West that was vanishing before his eyes, telling the story of the American West as no artist had before. Many of the stories Russell told through Russell's art and life resonate even today. The first museum dedicated to Western art, the C.M. Russell Museum houses Charles Marion Russell's original studio, the home where he lived, and many paintings and bronzes created by Russell and his contemporaries. It also includes a compelling exhibition of Browning Firearms, featuring information on John Moses Browning (1855-1926), one of the world's most important and innovative gun makers. Now allowing photography except for specific pieces (no flash photography). Find out why the C.M. Russell Museum is the art and soul of the American West.

We were in town for a visit with our son at the Air Force base. This museum was fantastic. We were lucky to be in town for the Ghost Ranch and National Geographic exhibitions. And the Buffalo /Indian exhibits were worth their weight in gold. A must see if your lucky to be in Gods country.

Charlie Russell is a famous painter and sculptor of western Americana. The Museum comprises his log cabin studio and galleries of his paintings and sculptures. There is a well stocked shop in the museum

We came expecting to find a small museum (perhaps in a house) that would take an hour or two to visit. Instead, we found a much larger, well-populated, more intricate facility, plus his house and his studio in separate buildings. It took us four and half hours to see everything, and we probably breezed past some stuff, like the collection of guns. An excellent introduction to Russell, and to other similar artists of his time, who are also represented here. It's also the first art museum we've been to that included the artist's funeral carriage. They didn't miss a thing here. If you enjoy Western art, you'll much enjoy your time here.

We went, not expecting to be impressed, but we were. Russell's painting are marvelous, and his watercolors exquisite. In the watercolors, the viewer can feel the swift movements of bucking horses, and the colors and scenes are extraordinary.
