“The perfect spot for Yellowstone”
Reviewed May 30, 2009

We spent three nights at the Yellowstone Basin Inn after three nights at the Old Faithful Inn. Next trip we will spend ALL of our trip based at the Yellowstone Basin Inn! It was beautifully run and well situated for the best of the park. We really enjoyed the small town of Gardiner as well. Greg and Sabina are superb hosts and were extremely helpful - ice packs for our cooler, tips for special places in the park, superb restaurant suggestions. The relaxed breakfast sets you up for the day and gives you a chance to get ideas from Greg as well as the other guests. No detail has been forgotten in this lovely small inn and the situation was excellent. We HIGHLY recommend it!

We are from China Sichuan, Chengdu. My family comes to my graduation ceremony and we decide to have my graduation trip in Yellowstone. We are so pleased and glad to have our days in Yellowstone Basin Inn. Regardless the comfortable room and delicious breakfast, Greg is so nice. He has provided us so much useful information and suggestions which helped us to be able to see beautiful sights and wild animals (wolves). Thank you Greg. This experience will be one of the most precious memories for my family.

Although we were disappointed at not being able to find any lodging in the park find this inn was blessing in disguise. Greg was very hospitable and most helpful with our visits to the park. Lodging was perfect for large families, our unit was like a townhouse with 2 bedroom and 1-1/2 baths, kitchen and living room. Cleanliness could have been a little better.

My wife and I were going to spend a few days in Yellowstone Park and wanted to stay near the North entrance in Gardiner, where we had heard that we would have the best opportunity to observe and photograph wildlife. In addition, I am a fly fisherman, and was looking for a place to stay with access to fishing outside the park.

After perusing the web for Gardiner Hotels, we settled on the Yellowstone Basin Inn. It is about 4 miles (and 4 minutes) north of Gardiner on Highway 89, and it is very convenient to go into town for meals, shopping, or to restock my collection of fishing flies. The park entrance was less than a mile farther north of the town.

We were in the Rainbow Trout room, which was immaculately clean and comfortable with satellite TV and a view of the Absoroka Mountains and the Devil's slide out the window.
Greg, the manager, was extremely helpful and accurate in advising us on restaurants and other facilities in Gardiner. He also provided instructions on accessing the Yellowstone River across the highway for fishing spots.

A continental breakfast of coffee, juice, cereal, english muffins, crosssants, and fresh (giant) muffins was served in a common area with great views down the valley. We saw herds of elk, prong horns, and mountain goats across the valley, and on the last day two bald eagles flew by.

We had a very pleasant stay and found the Yellowstone Basin Inn to be great base for daily trips into Yellowstone Park..

  • Liked — Location, view, friendliness of manager, wireless
  • Disliked — No cell phone reception for Cingular / AT&T - available in Gardiner

Greg was the consumate host. Always ready with advice for lunch or dinner, where to spot animals or travel directions. He loaned us cooler packs and gave us a highway map on the way out and even snapped a picture of all of us in front of Devil's Slide right outside the front door.
The rooms were huge and modern but with an antique decor. The beds slept really well compared to others we had stayed in along the way.
Our only slight crticism was the breakfast could have been more substantial, maybe offering fruit or more choices.

  • Liked — Convenience to park entrance, personal attention
  • Disliked — We would have liked a larger breakfast since we were sightseeing all day.

We stayed on two different occasions as we traveled in and out of the YellowStone area. The owners were terrific and accomodated our every need. The rooms could not be any cleaner and the guests were very friendly as we visited in the evenings on the front porch to take in the mountain views, elk and antelope. Good breakfasts and advice on things to do in the area. The only suggestion would be to have an ice machine outside for us "southerners" who need ice year round!

  • Liked — views of the mountains
  • Disliked — wished we could have cked in sooner in the day
