Greg (the owner) takes pride in knowing the best things to do in the time you've got. He helped us see things we didn't know to see. Our accommodatios were spacious and immaculate. Breakfast and the conversations were terrific.

Room Tip: Speak to Greg about your requirements -- he's a great help.

Yellowstone Basin Inn is definitely a great alternative to some of the chain hotels/motels in the area. We staid in one of the basic rooms, and it was interesting to look at, clean, and we loved sitting on the porch with a glass of wine and looking across the Yellowstone River to the mountains. The owners are "green" folks, encouraging conservation, and Greg even had a spotting scope pointed at a bald eagle in a tree along the river bank. Breakfast is common at lots of hotels these days, and I'd say the breakfast was good, definitely health-oriented. Greg is also a font of knowledge about the area, well experienced in where things are. Just three complaints: the hot tub was broken while we were there, it seems a bit expensive (although the market around there demands pretty high prices) and there was definitely a lot of noise coming from some of the adjacent rooms. That last may have been a function of the particular guests at that time.

I stayed at the Yellowstone Basin Inn for four nights in August of 2013. What a wonderful place to stay. Greg was an excellent host and takes great pride in making sure his guests are comfortable and well informed. He was very generous with his time with every guest and never made you feel that you were intruding on his time. The entire inn was spotless, and my room was very well appointed. It was very, very quiet in the evenings, and you can really get a good nights sleep. The inn is very convenient to the town of Gardiner, where there are many restaurants to choose from, and the entrance to Yellowstone.

We stayed in the family unit which has a full kitchen. Both nights there we sat outside on the porch and watched the sun go down over drinks. One night we heated up frozen pizza and made a salad.

The breakfasts were great! Very interesting with lots of variety including great fresh fruit.

The place was incredibly clean and well kempt.

This was a nice place not far from the park entrance and close to downtown Gardiner with all the shops and restaurants. We were greeted by Scott, who showed us to our room - a nice and small room on the first floor. He even gave us some sodas from his fridge as we hadn't anything to drink and the shops are a drive away. That was nice of him! Smoking was only allowed in the patio, but it had a great view! (I hope they've emptied out the "ashtray" bucket though! That thing was disgusting!) Breakfast was great - something different every day. And two mornings in a row, we saw a bald eagle from the porch. It seemed that the hosts were really helpful and knew the other visitors by their first name. They showed them where to go on maps and had long conversations with them. No one talked to us, and by check out we were hurried out while the owner was on the phone. Maybe we were giving out some kind of cold, unsocial Scandinavian vibe?! We don't know, but it seems everyone but us were given a lot of attention. Now the town of Gardiner was fun to visit. But the restaurants and cafés were really bad! If they had okay food you could almost be sure the service would be horrible! Out of all the bad restaurants, The Raven was the best. They were a bit busy, but they served okay food. Just to be clear, we thought the Basin Inn was nice and comfy, and definitely NOT an hour away from Yellowstone like someone else wrote! It was more like 15 minutes. And we would DEFINITELY prefer staying outside the park! The hotels inside the park were crammed with people, and clearly not in good shape.

The Yellowstone Basin Inn was friendly, comfortable, and clean. The owner, Greg, was very attentive. He greeted us when we arrived, and took an active interest in our trip. He had lots of great suggestions, including dinner at the Iron Horse Grill.

He also offers free roping lessons, which were fun and would probably go over VERY well with young children. We found them entertaining as adults too.

It was definitely the best value we found for four people anywhere near the park.

We stayed at the Yellowstone Basin Inn for two nights in August, 2013. The rooms were clean and functional. The staff took great care of the whole family and made our stay fantastic. And to our surprise there was plenty of wildlife visible right from the Inn. It was a great place to get some peaceful rest after busy days at Yellowstone Park.
