“Hated It!”
Reviewed September 24, 2006

I stayed at the Absaroka Lodge on Aug. 26, 2006. This was the plainest motel room I have ever been in. It had 1970's decor. There was no artwork or pictures on any of the walls. There wasn't even an alarm CLOCK! It had basic cable only...the premium station had been eliminated. No matter what floor you were on you had to climb stairs (even on the ground floor). The beds were older and too soft for my liking. There was no iron. The smallish balconies were ok, but the higher your floor, the smaller your balcony. The rate on this room was $95 plus tax. It was worth about $59. I felt like it was a rip-off. Two days after I stayed there I wrote a letter to the owner telling her how disappointed I was . She didn't even have the courtesy to respond. I certainly would NEVER recommend this property.

You'll be happy to know that in the Spring of 2012 we renovated our hotel upgrading all of the rooms with plush new beds, high profile toilets, and brand new carpeting throughout the hallways and office among other things. We also upgraded all of our deck chairs which makes sitting and relaxing on our balcony's and decks an even more pleasant experience.

We stayed at the Absaroka Lodge for 5 nights recently. We upgraded to a kitchen unit which we really didn't need since we only ate breakfast in the room. We ended up in the park late each night to see wildlife.

The room was clean and had almost everything we needed (no alarm clock though so bring your own).

The staff was very friendly and the location is great for access to the north end of the park which we feel has the most wildlife. The sound of the river is soothing and made it easy to fall asleep.

We had one dinner at the Town Cafe in Gardiner which was good. There is a good grocery store in town to pick up supplies right down the road and a Subway sandwich shop across the street from the lodge.

Overall, if we stay in Gardiner again, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
