Description: The Lighthouse Restaurant is located in a large 6000 Square foot structure that was built in the 1920's. The main dining room is constructed with wood and logs and has a nice, warm and casual atmosphere. We are located 7 miles north of Gardiner off of highway 89 and the restaurant is surrounded by beautiful mountains and is located 1 mile away from the historic natural wonder (The Devil's Slide). We are open May 21 through September 21 each season.

It's hard to find a good restaurant in a tourist area but even harder to find one like the Lighthouse Restaurant. It was a favorite of our Innkeeper who recommended it. I have to agree. The food was 5 star as was the service. Way beyond the other restaurants in the area. So good in fact we went back the 2nd time. I had the same gluten free dish both times and it was equally as good both trips. Can't wait to eat there again.

The Lighthouse lies several miles outside Gardiner, Montana in a region populated by various and abundant wildlife, and we took a chance traveling back to our Yellowstone hotel after dark. The restaurant sits alongside a rural highway, pretty much in the middle of nowhere. The interior is well-lit and full of wood and windows. Our server was a stout, friendly fellow who took your name with your order. The service was a bit slow overall, but after a week of dinners in Yellowstone’s Xanterra-run lodge restaurants, we were used to waiting for our food.

We began with the house favorite Osaka Roll, a kind of nori roll, fried crispy on the outside and served sliced, with wonderfully fresh wasabi and and garnished with...are those flower petals? Then it was on to a bowl of rich truffle mac and cheese. Entrees were a buffalo burger with a stack of garlic fries and The Wok, a delicious stir fry dish full of perfectly seasoned meat and vegetables. We didn't have any room left for dessert!

Prices are very reasonable considering the caliber of the appetizers and entrees, and all plates were elegantly presented with an extra touch of class that you rarely see at the same time with a $20-apiece dinner tab. By chance, we visited the Lighthouse just 5 days before they closed for the season, so certain menu items and beverages were no longer to be had. We still much enjoyed and were impressed with the meal, and the shortage is to be expected since they’re open only for four months out of the year.

The service was frustratingly slow but the food was delicious and the portions were large. They were getting ready to close for the season so they were out of a few items. Although it is a little bit of a drive from Gardiner, I would recommend the restaurant for the food, just don't expect to be waited on or served promptly.

Maybe we just had a bad experience but the waiter we had was the worst one in my 50 + years of going to restaurants. When we were seated, we saw our waiter seated at a table with a couple of patrons chatting away. We didn't even guess he might be a waiter until after not getting menus for 15 minutes we went to ask about it. They then send him to us! Well we ordered and after about 20 minutes our food came but no salads. The waiter never came to check on us...he was sitting at other tables just talking to his other patrons....no water refills...no checking on orders. The food was OK. I had the Bengal Beef which is a stirfry and my wife had fettucini in a cream sauce. Both were well prepared and value priced. But they need to get rid of that waiter.
