“Excellent Cottages, Hospitality at its finest!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

On our trip across the country we decided to make a stop at Yellowstone National Park and I decided to book after reading the TripAdvisor reviews. I was not disappointed! The cottages were warm and cozy, had a great nights sleep in the bed. The cottage had a full kitchen, nice updated bathroom and there was also a great hot tub available overlooking the river and the archway entrance to Yellowstone.

We arrived around 9pm and were greeted warmly by Ed & Laura - they were extremely thorough with the check in, walking us to the room and showing us how everything worked including the hot tub. They also gave us some great tips on local restaurants and what to do/see in Yellowstone in November. We were really impressed by their service and kindess.

We would definitely recommend to anyone. This is not a "chain" hotel by any means so you cannot expect a fitness center, free breakfast etc, but really if you are staying in cottages you shouldn't expect that!

As we were driving through Gardiner, my hubby, not knowing where we were staying, saw this property and said, "Boy, what little cottages!" I was almost horrified when I noticed the name on the sign as this was something special I planned. Laura was great though, in letting us stay in the theme cottage that I originally booked, since that was part of the reason I chose this place. The hottub was GREAT! We used it both nights we were there and had it to ourselves - being around freezing I guess detered the other guests. The bathroom sink was tiny - I could hardly rinse the soap off my face without hitting the wall or splashing water all over my feet. The bed wasn't the most comfortable...like sleeping on a futon, but we managed. I found too much light entered the cottage for my sleeping comfort, and my hubby woke up from the vehicles passing on the road, as the cottage windows are at street level due to the ground slope. My hubby couldn't get the internet to work either.
The stay was OK, but I think we'll go during warmer months next time, and stay in our camper right in the Yellowstone Park.

Got a cottage here, and though the lodge is right on the street, there was no traffic noise, and the brand-new hot tub was a delight. The cottages are perfect, and spotless. If you are going to go through Yellowstone Park or makes day trips there, STAY here!!!!!!

If you want drab equality.... book the Super8 over the road. If you want character, individuality and the caring personal touch RIVERSIDE COTTAGES in Montana - at Yellowstone Park's North Entrance is a veritable gem in a town deserted by the big chains. We booked two "efficiencies" in 2007, and were so pleased with Laura and Eddies efforts at making us welcome, and comfortable. 5 years on, we are back to a transformed establishment. Wooden window frames ripped out, double glazed plastic put in, all 9 cabins freshly painted inside and out, new flat-screen TVs in all rooms.Comfier beds, new micros, fridges, coffee makers and the bigger cottages have new kitchens. Plenty of easy access car parking spaces provided, and magnificent views down to the Yellowstone River, with personal steps down a walkway on site, right next to the outdoor covered hot spa. The "Western Family" grocery store is 100 yards away, the main U.S. Mail Post Office a further 100 yards on. Petrol/Gas station 200 yards the other direction, with dining all close by. Laura was a great host, at check-in, giving advice and directions for all the facilities in town. Riverside is within half a mile of the Roosevelt Arch, and close to the National Parks North Entrance to its 2.25 million acres of wilderness. We stayed 2 nights, but are in awe of what this couple have achieved in transforming a mediocre site into a very impressive business, in a region devoid of good places to stay.
Don't be afraid of looking down into the raging river gorge, look up at the Absaroka Mountains all around. The craft shops and cowboy boardwalks are in keeping with Wild West image that Gardiner has, This is THE place to stay in this town.Don't just take my word for it. Go man go, it is well worth a visit, forget mediocrity, live the American Dream.

Room Tip: Book a room in the block of 4 for couples, or a bigger efficiency unit for families.

We were here in July 2012. Mom & dad (40s), MIL (70s), and two boys (7 &12). Everyone told us that you should split your stay when seeing Yellowstone to get good starting and ending points for exploring the park. Although this was definitely way better than the place we stayed in West Yellowstone, and we loved it here in Gardiner, we would still recommend that advice. The park is huge, and you just do way too much driving otherwise.

We came in the East gate later in the day, checked out the lake and fishing bridge, up to Tower-Roosevelt Junction and then out the North entrance to spend the night here. It was late when we got here because we did not allow ourselves enough time to get through the park and ended up behind a huge bison block on our way here. Very scary drive in the park at night, and we don't advise doing this if you can avoid it. Anyhow, we called and let them know we would be arriving late. When we pulled up, I asked if there was anywhere we could get beer, as my husband needed one after that ride in the park in the dark. Everything was pretty much closed, as far as gas stations and stores. The lady who checked us in offered my hubby one of her beers, which he gladly excepted before going to bed. LOL Super nice gesture on their part.

From the property, there were beautiful views at all times of the day and it was fun to watch people rafting up and down the river. There was also a nice deck area where you could take in the view, use the grill provided there, or hop in the Jacuzzi that is sitting out there. We really wanted to try it and heard it was great from others who got in, but we just were always on the go and did not get to check it out ourselves. There is also a set of steps (no one under - I believe - 14 without adult) that goes almost all the way down to the river. There is a rope to hold onto if you want to go all the way down. The property is very well maintained and the staff were always present and asking how your stay was going, but they were not intrusive at all. Very nice people.

We were in cottage #9 - The Bison Cottage, which was wonderful. These are individual little cabins with similar rentals next to each other. The back of the cottages back up next to a sidewalk in a nice little neighborhood, but the front of it faces out over the river and towards the mountains. The inside is one large open room that is very clean and tidy with two queen beds and bunk beds atop of them. There was a full-size fridge, stove, microwave, dishes, tables and chairs, TV on wall, and a large handicap-accessible bathroom with a different shower setup that the kids liked all put into this cute, cozy, little cottage. Check out their website to see the virtual tour of this cottage. Just amazing. The do not serve breakfast, but we just made our own here instead of going out for it.

The next day we went White Water Rafting next door at Montana White Water (you get a discount with them if you are staying here), and then explored the Northern part of the park, including Mammoth Hot Springs and backtracking a bit to see what we missed in the dark the night before. We got back late again and just enjoyed the company of another couple out on the deck before going to sleep that night.

Only con I can think of was that parking was kind of tight when we pulled in.

I would definitely recommend basing at least part of your Yellowstone visit from here. We loved it and would stay again if we were in the area.

This is really a beautiful and well managed place to stay for your trip to Yellowstone. We were in the Bison Cottage and it was a big cottage. We had two queen beds and two bunk beds, a fully equipped kitchen, huge bathroom. Loved the location too. They have a hot tub which is outdoors and you have the beautiful mountain views and the river flowing below you! Absolutely amazing. The hosts are really nice and pleasant and very helpful. They recommended good places for us to eat, shop too. All in all, we had a great experience and we will definitely be back again. I would recommend this place anyday than the overhyped Old Faithful inn! Thank you, Eddie and Laura for making our trip so wonderful!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay (three nights) at the Riverside Cottages and it was much better than staying in a motel. Our room was clean and charming and nicely decorated. Laura was warm and welcoming. We feel the Riverside Cottages is a real find and have already told friends about it. We would definitely stay there again!
