A hotel worth seeing and staying at least once. Like a walk back in time. Has been renovated with keeping the original era while still having modern day things like AC, and jacuzzi tub.
Have stayed once before and loved everything. This time however the restaurant was a huge disappointment. Ran out of food in the morning at the breakfast and supper the night before...well lets just say too bad we did not dine elsewhere as the service was terrible. The first time we stayed at this hotel, the restaurant was the best! I think this time they were overly busy and not prepared for the large amount of people.

Room Tip: There are rooms that overlook the river.

What a wonderful surprise to find this lovely old hotel after our stay along the Missouri River. Professional staff, and a very good restaurant with a talented chef. We traveled with a group of about 30 and we all had a good experience at this historical spot. Ask for Dorothy!

Great Hotel. Great dinner in dining room.
Also the old fort Benton is great. The exhibit of Bodmer prints and Scrivner sculptures should be highlighted as the feature . It was a fascinating tableau of the Great Plains and Native American culture. If you go, be sure to look up the guide we had....Name: Burnt Spoon. He is from California, works the summers there in the fort and is a show all by himself. He knows the history from A to Z. I suspect his name has been changed to protect the innocent, but be sure to pick his brain at the old fort, just down the street from the Grand Union Hotel.

This old hotel is a must see and professionally redone to include all modern requirements such an elevator and AC in the rooms. Furnitures are of the 1880's style, some originals and others replicas. The bathrooms and bedrooms are "squeaky clean" and well decorated.

The restaurant offers great meals and the staff is friendly and efficient.

Only trouble is that some of the rooms (such as room 315) windows open to face a brick wall; a shame. Be sure to ask for one facing the river Missouri River.

Room Tip: ASk for a room facing the Missouri River.

I traveled 40 miles from Great Falls and was truly surprised at the quality, variety, and innovative use of local meats, berries, veggies ... This restaurant compares favorably to any 5 star experience in a major city, and offers a wonderful view of the start of the Upper Missouri Breaks ... Bon Appetite !

WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL! WONDERFUL! This was such a surprise. The restoration is superb. You truly get the best of both worlds, a glimpse into history with all the modern convenience. This hotel was built in the height of the steamboat era, when the wealthy and elite made trips up the MIssouri River. Montana wasn't even a state yet. It is an award winning National Archive restoration hotel. There are only 26 rooms so they are booked frequently throughout the year. Along with the wonderful staff, there was also a 4 star dining (reservations are recommended). I had the lamb and it was delicious. Then for an added pleasure, the deluxe continental breakfast that comes with your room is self service, but the dining room is waiting for you to enjoy your meal, complete with fine dining dishes and utensils. There is something about clothe napkins that make you feel high class.

Room Tip: Book early for both hotel stay AND restaurant dining!
