If you don't pick a day when it is raining or a blizzard, any other time is great for a walk down the river pathway. The old railway bridge, for me, is only good when the weather is warm.

Learning about the history, just by reading the signs and looking at the old buildings. It is easy and fun.

We visited the town of Fort Benton kind of on a whim, and what a pleasant surprise it was!

The actual Fort Benton museum is a reconstruction (with a bit of the original fort still there). It is very well done, and the tour guide was one of the best we have experienced. The oldest non-native building in the state is one of the corner guard buildings, which you get to go inside of for a bit.

In addition to the great tour of the Fort, take the time to walk down along the river path and read the signs about the various historic buildings, the various statue plaques, etc. Very, very well done.

There were two or three other museums in the area, but we ran out of time. We intend to return so we can see the rest of this little town!

Note: there is a fee for the fort tour, but the river path and such are free.
