“Typical park accommodations”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

We were in one of the "motel" type buildings of about 7 rooms all attached. Unfortunately, due to sitting on Many Glacier's hotel deck watching the sunset and then going to dinner, we arrived to our room after dark. Check-in in the restaurant went well, but there is not ONE source of light by the building (a motion-sensor light would've been nice!) There was one parking spot left, thankfully, but not where we could shine our car lights on the door to get in and turn on the porch light. It was 10pm and everyone else was asleep, so we felt like every move we made was being heard (the welcome booklet on the desk mentioned the thin walls...at least they have a sense of humor!).
We had a double and a twin, so we slept separately, which was fine for 1 night. They were comfortable beds. Bathroom had only a small shower, no tub. Thankfully, it was open at the top or I'd have been majorly claustrophobic. Sink was just that, a sink. No counter, no shelf, NO place to put toiletries. I found that really irritating!
Staff in the restaurant were very nice. Food is good and reasonably priced. We had the multi-grain hotcakes, but unfortunately they were out of huckleberries. Sausage was greasy and unappetizing, then we heard someone at another table order turkey sausage - which we would've loved to have, but did not see on the menu.
We were kicking ourselves for not just driving straight to the Inn and having dinner there. Instead we went to the Cattle Baron Supper Club, which was disgusting.
Overall, the accommodations were just okay, especially for $145! But if you want to be in the park, it's seems to be either one of these type places or the big (old) hotels. Roughing it for a night or 2 is not a problem for us.

Dear ilive4sun,

Thank you for leaving your feedback regarding your recent stay with us at Rising Sun Motor Inn. We are glad to read you enjoyed your evening at Many Glacier enjoying the sunset. We understand that the lack of lighting around the buildings can make it difficult when unpacking in the dark. The National Park Service has recently made an initiative to reduce light pollution in the parks, in order to preserve the night sky and to lessen the impacts of natural habitats, therefore we are limited on amount of night-time lighting we are able to provide within the park. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you,

Cassandra Sunell

We had a cabin with two full size beds, a desk, a chair, and a heater on the wall, just as described, but they failed to mention the spectacular mountain views, or the fact that you are nestled deep in ancient pines. The room was clean and comfortable, but it was the food and service at the lodge that made this stay so wonderful. Every time we entered the dining room, we were greeted with warm friendly smiles. You honestly felt like they were happy you were there. The mountains were shrouded in light smoke from the Yosemite and Idaho fires, but that just made it more romantic. My pictures don't look like everyone elses.

We spent one night here while on the East side of the park and found it to be wonderful! I am a stickler for cleanliness, and the room was very clean. As described in other reviews it is no frills, but it is afterall a motor inn and in that respect it met our needs. Hot shower, comfortable bed, quiet surroundings and a nice view of the mountains from our little porch. The hotel restaurant food was good for breakfast, but service was slow and they were out of a food staple menu items.

Great place, just 8 rooms in the row, feeling secluded, peaceful, watching sun rise and go down from front porch of room, large room, clean, it was a great experience, one I would do again. No TV, so get ready for a welcome media detox!!! It was fantastic.

Stopped here our first night of our Montana adventure. It really is a cute place. The rooms are plain but very nice. Next time definitely want to try the cabins. Views are gorgeous and the food at the restaurant was really quite reasonable.

Stayed in the cabins. Each cabin is divided into two separate sleeping quarters. The walls between the units are thin....bring ear plugs. Bathrooms are small but adequate for what you need for staying in Glacier Nat'l Park. Food was surprising good and better than, considering I also stayed at Swiftcurrent Motor Inn/Cabins also during my stay at the park. The staff was very helpful with any ideas you might need to make your visit more enjoyable. Kindly book months ahead of time as many people were turned away while I was staying there. The park shuttle system stops in the parking lot to bring you down Going to the Sun Road to your other destinations. First shuttle arrives about 7:45am. If your explorations are at this east end of the park, this is a good location. St. Mary's Visitor Center is just 5 minutes down the road at the terminus of the east end of the park.

My sister booked the stay at this location and told me afterwards that we would have twin beds, no A/C, no TV, no telephone and no wifi! I wasn't sure what to expect. Thought maybe we were going to be camping! What a lovely surprise to find a nice sized, very clean and comfortable room. The twin beds were comfortable and worked out well for us! The nights were cool in this part of GNP the last week of August 2013 so we slept with the windows open. Very pleasant and quiet! Woke up to the sun rising over the mountains of eastern Glacier NP and it was amazing! I would recommend staying here to anyone and plan to stay there again if there are any rooms available next time I go to GNP!

Room Tip: The rooms on the eastern side allow for a nice view of the sunrise but the ones on the western side...
