“Little bohemian getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

I loved this place. But be warned- you might gain 20 lbs while you sleep just from breathing in the smells of the delicious treats they bake & sell downstairs! It's a quirky bohemian kind of place. And a very good bargain. We stayed in a private room with 3 beds for around $30! The bakery downstairs also sells some groceries. There are other restaurants within walking distance, and the Glacier NP entrance is nearby.

The Hostel is built with a very great Deli and Bakery attached. There is a small dinner also across the street. The staff when I stayed was very nice. They were only there for the season. They were Lithuanian. They made a great sandwich and Muffins. The rooms are what you would expect. Very private in General. There is coin operated clothes washing in the next building over.
Perfect for the night before Glacier Hiking or the night after prior to the Amtrak. About 700 meters from the Amtrak station so you can walk with your backpack.

Room Tip: Not the room next to the shower.

During a Motorcycle trip over Labor Day weekend, my wife and I used Brownies for a conveinent place to get some fast food item's and coffee in the mornings. We did not stay there but stayed a block or so from Brownies at East-Glacier Motel & Cabins. We ordered a Homemade Pizza one night that I would not recommend, it was supposed to be an all meat pizza but hardly any meat cause they were out of most meats, but did not let us know this until it was ready,Still payed full price though that was pricy for a poor built Pizza. Also refills on coffee are 1.00 but that is if you drink the coffee there if you leave and come back even with your same cup..it is full price for refill. I guess that is the price you pay for tourist place in tourist season..Good baked goods though. Have been to Brownies several times over the years usually good experence, but this time a little disappointed.

I hadn't tried a hostel for the past 25 years (thought I'd grown out of it, and that it was only for college kids). I'm now 50 years old. While recently looking for affordable accomodations near Glacier National Park, an acquaintance recommended Brownies Hostel. I have now stayed there on 3 separate occasions, and I definitely plan to stay there again the next time I am able to travel to East Glacier. Both the staff and the other guests were charming and really interesting (students from Eastern Europe, young travellers from Vietnam and the US, older travellers from Australia, Great Britain, and the US). Evening conversations ranged from bear sightings and glacier hiking to world politics and global warming. I'd forgotten how much FUN it is to stay in a Hostel! Oh, and the bakery there is OUTSTANDING!!!

This is a must stop, if you are in the East Glacier area. The baked goods, coffee, and sandwiches are all outstanding. We try to stop everytime we pass by (which isn't often enough). The cinammon rolls are huge and delicous. The breakfast sandwich is also outstanding.

Room Tip: We didn't stay at the hostel, just stopped for the bakery..

Did I hear this correctly, that Brownie's was originally a brothel for workers building the Glacier National Park Lodge just down the street? What a history. Seriously, the place has a good bohemian vibe going on with a good number as traveling souls stooping in for extended stays. The fact that Glacier Village shops use a lot of hard-working summer workers from Lithuania (labas Jonas!) and Guatemala (hola Manuel!) and other U.S. states added a cool flavor to this hostel and surrounding restaurants. Check in was easy and is done in the bakery/deli on the first floor. Brownie's has good spaces for hanging out and wi-fi (no small think for that remote location). A 30 minute ride and I was riding the Going to the Sun road or in 45 min could be entering the "Many Glacier" part of Glacier N.P. deli on first floor and restaurant next door make finding meals easy. Easy going hostel.

I purchased a huckleberry bear claw for my father when passing through East Glacier. It was a bit pricy (I’m recalling $4-5 dollars). Unfortunately, he didn’t eat it until later in the day. Had we still been in East Glacier, I definitely would have stopped back for more…it was DELICIOUS!!
