“Worth it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

We returned to TCR after a 5 year hiatus and were somewhat nervous that it wouldn't be as good as it was the first time. We needn't have worried - it was even better! The staff continues to work with you to make your visit special and go out of their way to accommodate your requests. Food has improved since our last visit but is still not on par with some other resorts such as Blackberry Farm. Having said that, they made note that one of our party was gluten free and always had gluten free bread and cookies available. Our cabin (Aspen) was very spacious and allowed privacy for another couple. Activities are plentiful and fun...I had not picked up a bow and arrow since 7th grade, but we had a good time on the range. Fly fishing on the Bitterroot River is not to be missed. There is no question that this is an expensive resort. However, given the location, amenities, and activities, we think it is worth every penny!

The reviews of TCR are phenomenal and create some very high expectations. The fact that the Ranch has also been rated one of the Top 5 Hotels in the World for several years running plus the USD 1000 a night price tag leave little room for mistakes.

Overall it was a good experience but with one fatal flaw; the dining room service....

Positives:
- beautiful location
- complementary range of activities; archery and sapphire panning were particular fun
- lovely cozy cabin
- good wine list
- positive staff
- no child policy, and clientele is laid back and friendly if you choose to be social

Negatives:
- the restaurant was understaffed during several of our dinners and the staff, whilst young and positive individuals, are shockingly undertrained for a Relais Chateaux establishment resulting in painfully slow and sometimes sloppy service e.g. I had to wait 45 minutes in the restaurant on our first night to be served my first glass of wine, plus a very low awareness/understanding of the menu, even for the most basic of questions
- one evening there was a "progressive dinner" on the menu; we were quite excited but then discovered this was basically a choice of 2-3 dishes in a buffet in the kitchen; not very progressive but at least the (self) service was better than waiting for the restaurant staff.....
- the lunch menu is quite limited and only changes every two days; a small point but at this level, there should be more choice / variety

This place is clearly well received by many of the guests but if you are after world class standards of food and service, you will be disappointed.

I selected my visit to Triple Creek Ranch because of the high reviews it received in various travel publications. I have learned that sometimes these ratings are inflated and I am let down, but not in this case. My family loves the mountains and outdoor activities but we're not crazy about activities involving horses. This is why we have never visited a dude ranch or other ranches that seem to center around horse activities everyday. Triple Creek has plenty of activities involving horses and we did a trial ride which was beautiful, but if you don't want to ride horses you can just enjoy looking at them in the picturesque pastures surrounding the ranch. I have seen many ranches with lots of horses, and with the horses come muddy fields and unpleasant odors. Somehow Triple Creek has managed to present the horses as if they are roaming free in the mountain pastures with little to no smell. The overall property at Triple Creek is beautiful.peaceful and serene. The accommodations are first class and comfortable. The food is gourmet yet simple and delicious and the service in the entire resort is attentive yet not overwhelming. I would recommend Triple Creek Ranch to anyone looking for a unique tranquil getaway that can appreciate the rustic yet luxurious setting of the Ranch. We took our family, including my youngest son age 16, the youngest aged guest the ranch accepts, and we were warmly welcomed and felt perfectly at home during our entire stay. The fly fishing guide, though an outside service, was exceptional and his personality seemed to reflect that of the ranch. Outstanding overall experience.

“Triple Creek Ranch is the epitome of cowboy-stylish. Everybody that works there is beyond friendly and accommodating, and the grounds are simply spectacular. We loved our cabin, which was equipped with a wood-burning fireplace and private outdoor hot tub. But as lovely and comfortable as the cabins are, be sure to take full advantage of the many, many activities the Ranch has to offer. So much to see and do: photo safaris, snowmobiling, heli-hiking, artist workshops, cattle drives…the list goes on. And when you come back to your lovely cabin oasis each day, after hours of outdoor activity, you’re offered freshly baked chocolate-chip cookies as a welcome home snack. They were delicious! In fact, all the food on site was. This is such a great place to visit: cozy, quiet, sporty.”

A truly romantic setting in rural Montana! Unlike other ranches that are focused on being family friendly, TCR sets itself apart by offering unbelievable service, activities, and divine dishes to delight your palate. The cabins are incredible - you cannot go wrong with any of them but each has their own character and faces a different direction. Love the fireplaces in the cabins and the porches. Not all cabins have a bath tub. We were able to watch a baby deer off the back deck of our cabin. The Thymes products were wonderful. The cabin is stocked with snacks, "lower" shelf hard liquor, soft drinks, and house wines. If you want something else you request it for a fee. It would be helpful to have a wine list with pricing rather than being charged at the end. Otherwise cocktails are available by the pool, at the bar, and at meals. Drinks are stiff. Bartender is a wealth of knowledge and wine cellar lounge is truly hip.

Dining at TCR was a highlight. Enjoyed varied types of fish throughout my stay. Breakfast: greek yogurt, bacon, and trout are not to be missed. Lunch was not as delicious as other meals, but salads always fresh and crisp, the chili was a good choice (and loved the sablefish special). Dinner included 4 courses that changed daily. One night we had a buffet-style kitchen dinner (you get up and go in the kitchen to go through a few lines). It was neat to meet the chefs, but our friends had a hard time finding items that fit their dietary needs. There did not appear to be many alternatives. We preferred ordering from the menu. It is suggested for guests to bring a sweater to dinner as the AC can get the room quite cold. Guests have the choice to eat outside or in their cabins as well.

Service was friendly and professional. Stand outs included the FSU interns: Emilie and Andrea as well as Andrew. Kim did an excellent job leading the photo safari tour. Horseback ride was technical with narrow passes but small group and guide to provide instructions related to each horse's personality. Gorgeous horses that are extremely well taken care of on the ranch.

Some of the other guests were friendly which definitely added to the experience. We enjoyed tennis and were impressed with the level of attentiveness to details by the staff. Andrew brought us water to the court while we were playing. Photos magically appeared of us during activities which we will truly cherish. We loved the digital photos from the photo safari and will enjoy sharing them with our friends.

Recommendations for mgt to enhance ranch experience:

1. Check-in and check-out were slow and required waiting over 15 minutes on either end. Room was not ready when we arrived and once it was ready we needed to wait for someone to escort us to the room. Check-out was also slow and would have been more ideal to have bill with line for tip delivered to room night before. We could fill out and leave keys and bill in room.

2. Horse flies were plentiful especially by pool area and during horseback riding. Although horses were sprayed this is probably unavoidable in woods. The pool seemed worse than the dining areas or the cabins - maybe some attention could be paid to pest control in this area. Many flying insects in pool itself which made it less enjoyable for swimming in the water.

3. Fees for non-house wines could be printed in cabins. It was helpful to have on menus at dinner.

4. All staff should be encouraged to be professional at all times. A couple of the more seasoned staff (check-in desk/activities) were flippant, sarcastic, and did not seem to genuinely care about the patrons. They had no problem with guests waiting after being on the plane for hours (maybe a welcome drink should be provided if there is a wait?) Aman and Montage resorts seem to handle the arrival process much more smoothly.

Will definitely return!

Room Tip: There is no bad cabin but some do not have bath tubs.

We love TCR and our next visit will be our 15th (I think). Why do we go back? Sure, the cabins are utterly luxurious, the food sinfully good and very sophisticated, and the setting rustic and gorgeous. My wife loves the horse program with something for every rider from the first timer to the lifelong equestrian. I love the peace, the ability to leave my wallet in the safe, and the immersion in the western natural environment. What is really remarkable though is the people. The staff embody what's best about small town America-- They are friendly, straightforward, down to earth, and fun to be around. Don't miss a conversation with James the bartender or a Chef's Table dinner with Jake!

Room Tip: We started with the less expensive choices and moved up to luxury cabins over time and they were all...

If you like outstanding personalized service, excellent meals, and outdoor activities you will love Triple Creek Ranch. It is a truly special place. Three weekends in May, Triple Creek hosts a vintner’s weekend. This past Memorial weekend, Chappellet Winery was the co-host for the resort. The combination of the exceptional service and food combined with Chappellet wines made for a bucket list weekend. The resort offers a host of activities that includes fly fishing, trail riding, trap shooting and hiking. They also offer additional seasonal activities. Enjoy!!

Room Tip: All of the rooms (cabins) have been recently re-modeled.
