“Out of the way but take the time!”
Reviewed February 28, 2012

Staff was excited about dinousaurs and really seemed to enjoy telling my kids about each and every exhibit. We had lunch (bring your own) on an old picnic table outside while listening to roosters crow in this tiny town. Have a very interesting rock shop next door.

“Interesting place, friendly staff, working paleontologists and lab inside.”
Reviewed November 3, 2011

We were there on a day the museum was closed, because a new find in the field had all the staff out working on that! But when we inquired next door at the rock shop, the nice lady made some phone calls and a volunteer came down and opened it just for us! Definitely worth a brief visit, and be sure and visit the rock shop right next door. Great prices on lots of rocks, but more to my liking, lots of fossils too.
The huge dinosaur model in the museum really is something, you can't believe something like that ever walked the earth.
I don't recall the admission fee, but we all gave donations in appreciation for opening it up for our visit.

“An unexpected pleasure”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

Bynum, Montana is a small town on US 89, and it's easy to drive through. On the southern edge of town on the west side of the road stands a small building with dinosaurs painted on the outside, the Two Medicine Dinosaur Center. It's easy to assume that this is just another commercial road side attraction operated to lure bored children and their half-desperate parents into paying good money for cheap exhibits, but nothing could be farther from the truth. This is a genuine scientific enterprise, operated by working paleontologists to support their work in the area. The founders had made some extremely important fossil discoveries (including one that showed that some dinosaurs had family values).

Adults and children will like this place. On display are actual fossils from the area as well as recreated ones, with some illustrations and easy to follow explanations. The "star" is a recreated seismosaur, which is so large that it has to be curled around in order to fit inside the building. One look and it's easy to imagine that the ground indeed shook when it walked the earth.

Best of all, the Center is low-key and friendly as befits its Montana location. You're likely to receive a tour of the exhibits from an informative staff member, which personalizes the experience.

The Center was an unexpected pleasure for us. If you're in the neighborhood, it is definitely a worthwhile stop.
