This is not a place you go to for atmosphere; you go here for the beef, more specifically, for the steaks. We had been told that the beef was better than in Alberta. We aren't willing to go quite that far, but it is definitely as good as the Alberta beef we've had. We had the rib eye and petit filet and both were excellent. We both ordered the spinach salad and small red potatoes, both of which were also very good. We would definitely go back again if we're in town. We experienced none of the problems noted in other reviews; our server was attentive without being overbearing. Our steaks were prepared exactly as we had ordered.

Our local friend said that this restaurant offers quintessential Butte atmosphere. We did enjoy that.

The people in our large party who ordered steaks were happy. The vegetarian and healthy eaters were not. There is meat in everything. Mushroom appetizers had beef bouillon as a sauce, very salty. The spinach salad can be ordered without bacon but beware the sauce. It was tasty but contained bacon. The lunch menu has a portabello mushroom but they won't sell it for dinner. My salmon was okay but pricey for just okay. The Night De-Light had very delicious chicken atop fettuccine and steamed veggies.

Ribeye was ordered medium was cooked very over well. Should have went with much cheaper and well cooked medium sirloin. Son could not eat chicken park special as it was full of cloves cinnamon or nutmeg. Tasted like dessert. Wouldn't have cared about wait but we made quick trip from missoula to see uncle who had stroke And aunt with shoulder surgery. Not pleasure trip but dinner made everything worse.

Tonights (Dec 26) experience was a 4. Starting with the host who tried to seat us in the bar. He handed us menus & pointed at the table.
We asked to be moved to the dining area. Server was very good a 9. My grilled salmon was fair, dry. & overcooked. Red potatoes were cold & broccoli was cold & undercooker. The other 2 meals, both steaks were as ordered with cold potatoe etc.
I use to tell everyone who visited Butte to eat at the Derby but not any more.
