Each of us has our own expectation for a special meal. The food has to be excellent, perfectly prepared, attractively plated and with something a bit special or unique. When we consider such a meal in this part of the country, it runs around $120 a couple for a shared appetizer, entree, shared dessert and a bottle of wine.
$70 for a four-course meal for two!
We started with a bowl of soup; clam chowder in my case. Wonderful flavors and completely traditional. Thick and hearty. Now, follow it up with a pair of "house clams." Served in scallop shells and very flavorful. Then a mixed green salad with a tart huckleberry vinegarette--no iceberg here! A bottle of wine, just because.
Entrees were Quail, Scallops Newberg and Coq Au Vin. All perfect, all a bit unique.
Desserts weren't terribly original, but were of excellent quality, large enough to share and reasonably priced. White Mousse Pie and a Pecan Ball.
The server was a young man, friendly and personable. He took very good care of us and provided the interaction we desired without being overly friendly.
This is a restaurant that will become a destination for us. Butte is an amazing community with many things to see and do. Some lovely B&Bs and at least one glorious old hotel. We will make a weekend of it, simply for the chance to enjoy this restaurant again. With what we save, we should be able to get a nice room.
