Green energy's dirty little secret ,copper mining. This operation is closed down but there are many like it to supply the copper needed to build electric motors.

The Berkeley Pit is a sight in Butte worth visiting and learning about. This depressing scene should serve as a warning to all. The pit is a current vision of what the world could look like if those who oppose any environmental rules and regulations are elected to office. In a country where a growing number of politicians advocate the abolishment of the E.P.A. and total environmental deregulation, this tragedy is hopefully a wake up call.

I have heard of this but to see 1 mile deep of toxic waters filled to nearly the top of this pit. To think all this water was just pumped into the river until 1983.

It was informative and picked up some cool gifts or my nephews at the gift store.

I grew up in Butte so this is nothing new to me but it always fascinates people that we have taken there. Be sure to ask about the dog - they have a statue of him at the Plaza Inn Mall. There you can check out the carousel horses - beautiful!
