“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2011

I travel a lot for business and the Grantree Best Western is hands down the best. They have a beautiful hotel with wonderful rooms. However, the best part is the great people that work there. Carl, Callie, Annie, Petra, Tiffany and Sara are always helpful and make every stay enjoyable. If you are staying in the Bozeman area for fun or business it would be hard to find a better place with nicer people to stay.

Customer service was much better than most hotels of similar type. The restaurant food was very good, and the bar staff were exceptionally friendly. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Hallways could use a cleaning, painting. Overall a very good experience and I would recommend this hotel to others.

I spent the week from Christmas to New Year's in the Gran Tree in Bozeman. The hotel is located near the interstate and on the main road that leads to all things Bozeman. You drive down 7th until you hit Main... turn left you are downtown... you turn right... you are on the road to the mall... or the first part of your trip up to Big Skay... as you pass 19th... you can turn left to Montana State... or right to the strip malls that flourish on the north end of 19th... if you get to Oak Street and turn right... you'll return to the Gran Tree on your left... so it's EASY to get around... so the location is GREAT...

There are an amazing number of places to eat in Bozeman... with an amazing variety of both prices and styles... besides the steakhouses you would expect... you have a surprising array of ethnicities represented ... if you follow the square I laid out above... you'll have enough choices to eat at than you can possibly take advantage of in just a week...

Bozeman has an amazing art and culture scene that is something totally unexpected in a small Western City... but you have an artchitecturally very interesting downtown that is alive and vibrant... with artsy types of places ... mixed in with an endless stream of outdoor stores... and places for wannabe... and actually REAL... cowboys and cowgirls... even in the middle of winter... the streets and stores were hopping...

At night... no matter what the weather... well... almost no matter what the weather... people are having a lively time at the nightsports... sport bars... bars... restaurants... and ... music... there's no reason you should be bored other than you're being a stick in the mud...

Nearby ... Big Sky with ITS nightlife... and SKIING... or snowboarding... is world class... and I truly mean WORLD class... both the skiing and the scenery... if you have less time... Bridget Ski Bowl is barely a half hour from the Gran Tree... also EASY to find... just TWO turns... ask at the front desk... it's smaller than Big Sky... but the pretenrious ski lodge scene is totally absent... come as you are... bring the whole family... and enjoy!

Tucked behind Big Sky is one of Montana's newest ski areas... Moonlight Basin... it is amazingly uncrowded... even though it's simply on the backside of the same mountain as Big Sky... for you hardcore skiers and snowboarders... there are magnificent runs for everyone... short lines... great runs... and some of the best snow anywhere...

And lastly... YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK... is OPEN in the winter... if you can't afford the snowbuggy run into Old Faithful Winter Inn... you can drive into the Northwest Entrance into the park by Gardiner... and if you have a four wheel drive... it's an EASY drive... and amazing... within two hours of Bozeman... you're on the northern end of the park... and can drive to Cooke City WAY on the east side... a place to grab some lunch if you're so inclined... you'll certainly see buffalo and elk... and very likely coyotes and bighorn sheep (look for them on the road BEFORE you get into the park... they're there)... and with a bit of luck... you might catch a glimpse of some wolves... a stray fox... even otters along an ice-free strech of the Lamar River...

On the way back... consider stopping at Chico Hot Springs Resort where you can warm up in a naturally heated water pool... they take visitors... just bring your swim suit... there is a place to change... and even though you'll FREEZE getting in and out of the pool... the warmth of the pool is JUST what you need after being the COLD park all day... even better.. consider staying at the resort... the resort is not hard to find... BUT... you have to be ALERT to see the sign to it on the high right at the main intersection in Emigrant... WATCH for it... you'll have fun... and they have both a cafe for the cheap set... and a very nice restaurant for the hoitie-toities...

Back in Bozeman... keep in mind that the Gran Tree has a nice sports bar that serves inexpensive and tasty food... that your room will be large and comfortable.. and the staff is amazing... friendly and warm and willing to work through any problem with you... nothing overly fancy... just good Montana hospitality... and located near all the joys of a Montana Winter hot spot... if you love the outdoors... love the beauty of winter... the Gran Tree makes that all possible for you... and in a way that is both comfortable... and warming...

This was a very large property with a petrol station and restaurant on site. There was a Walmart & Kmart across the road and it was within walking distance of Arby's, McD's, Famous Dave's & Applebee's so a perfect location on a main highway but not too noisy.
Reception was welcoming. There was a pool and a ballroom and function rooms. There were 3 internets available for free.
The room was pleasant with good lighting, the usual amenities and open hanging space. It had a fridge, microwave and safe. There was no full length mirror which is a bug bear of mine.
The bathroom had a totally moulded bath with a fixed shower head and the washbasin vanity unit was outside in the room.
It had a large flat screen TV.
With no breakfast included it wasn't the best value for money, however with Walmart next door we got fruit and muffins so were sorted as we had coffee in the room.

We enjoyed this place for two nights. The rate was $119/night with our outfitter discount. The front office was intelligent but as with most places in the Yellowstone area, a lot of the other staff feels like perpetual adolescents who talk endlessly about themselves and haven't a clue about what it is like to be a customer. The shuttle driver, Matt, talked tediously about his decision to go to MSU and ski at Bridger. He pocketed his tip and then left my young daugher and I in the middle of the driveway with our three bags. The next night he was asked to help us move our bags to another room and shouldn't have been surprised when I didn't tip him.

The front office staff was solicitous and very accommodating of our needs for a room. We had a nice waitress at breakfast who talked all about her pregnancy, boyfriend and ranching. She must not have like the 18% tip we left her because the next morning she engaged in passive aggressive behavior about not taking our order and making us very late to meet our outfitter in Yellowstone.

I hope some day the service industry in the national park area gets "a clue." Tips are 15-20% on pre-tax amounts for good service. It is not an entitlement program.
