“Good but not great”
Reviewed September 17, 2008

We booked a one-bedroom suite. Overall we had a good stay, but it could have been better.

The pros:
- clean room
- the room's kitchen facilities fit the bill
- friendly staff
- pool temperature was perfect; too many hotels these days have freezing pools
- breakfast buffet was above average. Breakfast staff was very friendly, especially to our children.

The cons:
- our room faced the interstate (the off-ramp was a few hundred feet from our window), and it was a bit too loud for us. Not terrible, but more than noticeable.
- we were given a handicap-accessible room, which was less than perfect for travelling with children, since it had no bathtub. Not a big enough hassle to want to change rooms, but it would have been nice if they had warned us ahead of time.
- as others have noticed, the hotel looked strangely worn given that it was built this year.
- the bed linens were not good. Lumpy mattress pad, and a poor fitted sheet that kept coming off in the middle of the night.

All told, nothing terrible, but enough minor issues that we will probably try someplace different next time.

The hotel is newer which is a plus but I think they have some pretty lazy emplyees, what else could explain the damp towel left hanging behind the bathroom door from the last guest, dishes left in the dishwasher, food crusted countertops, knife in cabinet with dried food, should I go on?? Overall, the room seemed like it really hadn't been cleaned from the last guest. The room itself was nice and spacious and worked out well for our family. However, you can hear upstairs noise pretty well, we heard a child or a pet (they do allow dogs) running around for quite sometime. I went to do laundry and there was detergent that had spilled probably a few days before that hadn't been cleaned up, and overall just not the typical Marriott pride. Breakfast was served each morning and that was tasty. Pool is inside and that area is nice. Just needs more attention to detail and this place could be nice...

I switched my booking to this hotel because a one bdrm suite was available. Hotel was new but looked old. Our shower was dirty, room just did not seem that clean or nice for a new place. As another reviewer put it... "inexperienced staff". I normally stay at Hilton/Hampton properties and I could really see the difference. Front desk clerk reading a book while one girl tried to keep up to the breakfast rush (she couldn't). We waited for cereal, waited for coffee, waited in line for the one busy waffle maker. Again, the breakfast area was kind of a mess.

On the plus side, good shopping access nearby (Costco, Target, etc.)

The Hilton Garden Inn down the road(my first choice) looked nice. We also walked into the C'mon Inn next door and it looked like a great spot as well- bigger breakfast, clean, big pool, counted at least five hot tubs(sort of looked an Embassy Suites style inside). I think I would choose either of those two over the Residence Inn

We go to Bozeman quite often, and we stayed in many of the properties over there. For those who won't bother to read the details below, here is the bottom line.

If your priority is a peaceful stay with no surprises, headaches, or hassles, the best property in Bozeman is the Hilton Garden Inn. It is new and sparkling clean. The C'Mon Inn is the second best, but the Hilton Garden Inn has a nicer breakfast (although you have to pay for it).

If your priority is to feed a large family on the cheap (free but mediocre breakfast and weekday supper fare) and you don't require great customer service, stay at the Residence Inn.

The Residence Inn opened in early 2008, and we already stayed there twice (once in March, and then in July). The hotel is in walking distance to a shopping area (Target) and a few restaurants (Outback Steakhouse, Johnny Carinos). The rooms are nice and pleasantly decorated. The rooms have LCD TVs that are on a swivel stand. The air-conditioning system is effective but a bit noisy.

Our first stay at the Residence Inn was fine. On the second stay, we experienced several problems. Hotel personnel were mostly friendly and tried to correct these issues, but they kept fumbling.

The problems started with a filthy inner shower curtain. OK, that happens. We reported the problem to the front desk, and they said they'd replace it. When we arrived in our room the second evening, we noticed that they had indeed replaced the shower curtain, albeit with one that was washed in hot water and then put through the dryer. Since it was a plastic curtain, it was wrinkled, melted in several places, and shrunk by several inches! If we had tried to take showers, we would have caused flooding. We called the front desk again and reported this problem. We also reported several other housekeeping failures (they took away the soap and hadn't replaced it, they left dirty washcloths in the tub, the bed was hastily made with the sheets sticking out of one corner, no clean washcloths). The front desk said that they would attend to these problems right away. An hour later (around 11 pm), there was still no response. We finally gave up, told them to cancel our housekeeping request, asked the hotel general manager to contact us in the morning, and went to bed.

The following morning, we found a brand new shower curtain and soap in a plastic bag outside the door. We installed the shower curtain ourselves, asked for new washcloths (which were promptly brought over by the front desk lady), and finally took our showers.

We found the General Manager in the breakfast area. She was a pleasant young lady. She had an apron on and she was working in the kitchen! One way to motivate your staff, I guess ;-) Apparently they already had run out of coffee (this was at 8:15 AM), and she was filling coffee cups one by one for several annoyed guests. She acknowledged hearing about the housekeeping problems we had, and said that she would talk to the housekeeping manager about these issues. She did not own up to the failures of her personnel, which I attribute to her inexperience. We never heard from either the housekeeping manager or the general manager again (despite the fact that we are Marriott Elite members and repeat customers).

Around 9:10 AM, while we were getting ready to leave our room, the power went out. I presume some guests got stranded in the shower in the dark! Lights were on in the corridors and the elevator worked, so we were able to depart without any further problems. The front desk lady told us that the power outage was planned (for modifications to the power distribution system). They simply failed to inform their guests of a planned power outage, probably due to the lack of experience of the hotel management team.

In the end, we canceled the third night our stay and moved to another hotel. The property is nice and new, but until they get experienced management who can direct the housekeeping staff effectively and deliver great customer service, we will be taking our business to the Hilton Garden Inn or the C'Mon Inn next door.

One final hint: if you decide to stay at the Residence Inn, ask for an even-numbered room. Even-numbered rooms face the inner courtyard area. Although there is no view, you are less likely to be bothered by noise from the train tracks nearby or I-90.

When we stayed in February 08, the hotel was just built. Its styled in the very rustic/west type of decor. The beds were comfortable in this room which was a nice surprise as my experience in Residence Inn's is just the opposite. The rooms are always spacious with a small kitchen and living area.
The morning breakfast buffet was tasty and included eggs, waffles, cerals, pastries, several types of juice, fresh fruit and more.
The hotel is located right off I-90 and has shops across the street and a great restaurant - Johnny Carino's - country Italian -yum!
The only thing I had a problem with was kid's in the pool. I'm all for sharing, but when the kids are jumping and splashing throughout the whole pool - while their parents are right there - I get a bit annoyed. Not the hotel's fault though.

We stayed at the Residence Inn in Bozeman for one week during Spring Break. I booked the room as a Marriott Reward (Since I often stay at Marriott hotels on business) so the entire stay was free for us. We had a one bedroom unit which was great for our family of four since the bedroom door could be closed and locked and the children could sleep on the hide-a-bed in the living room area. We were very impressed with the cleanliness and the quality of the furnishings. The one bedroom unit has flat screen TV's in both the bedroom and in the living area and we thought this was very nice. There was a nice outdoor courtyard area with a gas fireplace and gas grill. The pool and hot tub were a little small but the pool was warm and we enjoyed our swimming time. We never used the exercise room but the equipment that they had was first rate (TV's on treadmills, etc.). The hot breakfast items were changed around every day and there was a lot to choose from. The only small negative was the evening "Manager's reception". We thought they might serve alcohol but instead they only offered a light dinner but it was still better than nothing. The other notable that put this hotel over the top was that they set up a special Easter Egg hunt with some very nice prizes on Good Friday. We really felt that the staff did a great job to make sure we enjoyed our stay.

What a find. We just turned up here one evening and were offered a rate of $99 per room. Well the room was huge, modern and very clean. It had a full kitchen with all utensils, crockery etc., a very comfortable sitting area with flat screen tv, dining area, a great bed with modern linens and a good sized bathroom. This was a room that a couple could easily live in.
Downstairs is a good sized swimming pool and hot-tub, an area with computers and the lobby area where a great breakfast area is served. There is no restaurant on-site but we had a good meal at the Outback Steakhouse which is within very easy walking distance. Every evening a social hour is arranged with complimentary soft drinks and light supper. We did not stay but had a quick look at the offerings which seemed ok.
Staff friendly and efficient.
You definitely need a car here as it is situated a little distance from the centre of town near a retail park.
This place was perhaps the best value hotel I have ever stayed in.
