We loved this museum!!! We couldn't get into Yellowstone National Park due to the government shut down, so found ourselves looking for alternative activities. This museum was suggested to us by a local and we are so glad it was! We loved all the Yellowstone history and artifacts, so interesting!! The dinosaur exhibit was expansive and impressive. This visit was the highlight of our trip for me!

We spent several hours here at the start of our vacation. It was awesome. The dinosaur exhibit was the highlight for me, but the space exhibit was very interesting as well. We were able to see one of the shows in the planetarium which is a really neat experience. We enjoyed the exhibit about the early history of Montana and about the museum itself. Just missed the exhibit about the early history of Yellowstone by a few weeks! Every employee we spoke with was very friendly and knowledgeable. Also, don't forget to check out the homestead just outside the museum (included in museum admission). It closes earlier than the museum itself, but was a great opportunity to see life as it was in the early 1900's - complete with period actors!

On a road trip but decided to take a look first thing before setting off. Well the opening hours had changed because of th season but no real communication until you got there and it was shut. First film at 11.00 which was 2 hours after opening and i needed to be away. The best exhibit was the free one , the dinosaur on display outside.

This museum is such a treat. I had a two-hour tour through the exhibits, and my only wish is that I had two more hours. The Yellowstone exhibit had just opened up; what a treat to see all the inspiration our First National Park fostered! It ties in nicely to the regional artifacts exhibits highlighting human history in and around the Rockies. The artifacts and sociocultural history surrounding them encompass the Native American tribes, to early exploration and settlement, and twentieth century technological advances. The famous Dinosaur exhibit houses one of the largest collections of fossils in the world- the skeletal reconstructions are amazing. I enjoyed the bi-view split replicas showing the imagined dinosaur "as it was" and the recovered fossil reconstruction. A cool extra when I was there- you can watch volunteers working on fossil cleaning!

I did not see the planetarium, which I sorely regret. Won't miss out next time!

As a native east-coast gal with little knowledge of Montana, this museum was a sweet taste of what makes this western territory so special in our national history. The curators have taken a lot of care in creating exhibits that are interesting and hands-on without risking the integrity and preservation of their artifacts. Please go make a visit!
