“Glad we stopped”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

While this zoo was no where close to some of the bigger zoo's we have been to (Minnesota, Phoenix, Calgary), it was worth the stop to get out of the car and wander around while we were on a road trip across Montana. Entry fee is very reasonable ($18 for the three of us). Not a ton of animals out, but we did see a few and enjoyed our walk through the trails. Our son liked the playgrounds and loved seeing the snakes and lizards in the main building. Don't expect to be able to spend hours here - I think we were able to spend about an hour before we were ready to move on.

“Very Sad”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Horrible! All the animals looked very under weight (wolves you could see the ribs and backbones) the place was dirty and unkept. None of the animals had clean flowing water (and I mean none) in the pens. The water on the whole property was digusting unclean and growing green mossy crap all over the tops. The wolf pen had old card board boxes torn up everywhere along with garbage bags hanging in the trees, not to mention that I didn't see any water in that inclosure at all. I wish I could post the pictures I took of the animals and cages here for all to see. They need to pull any and all funding for this place and move the animals to a better place that will take care of them. Very very sad to see, even my children didn't want to finish the walk around the zoo.

We're sorry you felt this way. ZooMontana is a Zoo that is rebuilding from scratch. We have all worked very hard over the past 2 years to get to the point we are at today. We work tireless hours caring for and bettering the quality of life for our animals and working to better your experience as a guest. As a non-profit zoological organization that receives no public funding, we rely on admissions and donations to survive. As we continue to improve, it must be understood that large scale projects take time and money on a grand scale. To address your concerns:

1) Of course, all animals always have access to clean water. Not only do animal habitats have water features including ponds/waterfalls, they all have clean drinking water. These dishes are not in public viewing.

2) Animal health is our #1 priority. Our animals are on a 24/7 keeper and vet watch. Our animals are kept in tip top shape. We have posted pictures on our profile to show the wolves that are you had mentioned are "skin and bones". Wolves are lanky animals, especially in the summer months.

3) The "trash" seen in the habitats is enrichment items from the night before. We hide treats in the boxes, encouraging them to tear them apart. This is something the wolves love to do, helping to stimulate them.

4) The water that you do see in the exhibit features (ponds, waterfalls) is natural water, the same kind an animal would find in the wild. We choose not to chemically treat the water as these chemicals can cause health issues. We feel this is the better choice for the animals.

For what it counts, thank you for your visit. We hope you return to watch the progress as we continue to grow.

“The only zoo in Montana is a winner!”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

Zoo Montana is the whole package! The grounds are landscaped nicely - photographers and nature lovers will be pleased. The zoo has most of the native animals as residents (i.e., bears, lynx, mountain lions). Admission fees are reasonable. If your group wants an engaging speaker, ask for Troy or Jeff to bring one of their residents to your event. A great place to spend a day with the family.

“A Zoo in touch with Nature”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

Wrote this on another travel site, so I thought I'd share it here to since they have more reviews here:

After visiting and doing some research, it is interesting to see the history of this Zoo. They seem to be in a real upswing, a "little Zoo that could". What people don't seem to understand is that these things take time. I personally loved the wide open, walk in the woods feeling. It's nice not to see concrete enclosures. Very natural and well done. Free roaming peacocks and turkeys really gave it a cool feeling. I saw kids having fun, the real sign the place is doing something right. Sure their animals are few and far between, but give them credit for working within their means. I bought a membership to support their efforts to grow. Keep it up ZooMontana!

“not really a zoo”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

I love that they have something to take family/kids to and you can go waste a day.....but I'm not sure this should really be classified as a zoo. great set up for trails.walking and enjoying a beautiful montana day.
