My friend, her mom, and I went to billings for a shopping trip and stayed at the howard johnson inn.. worst idea ever. The rooms were terrible, messy, and the staff was lazy. There wern't enough towels in our room so we went downstairs and asked for more.. the front desk lady said that she would bring some up in about ten minutes. She never came. THEN, (you all will find this gross) there were bugs in our bed.. That was really gross and unacceptable. I would never stay here again. This place is nasty and very unhealthy for people to stay at. We also had to ask for a vaccum to clean our room because it was nasty. We also went out at 2 in the morning to get lysol from walmart to clean our room as well. I hope that the howard johnson inn gets shut down because they are the worst hotel ever.

Room Tip: This place is terrible. Dont stay here.

Here's the secret. Billings is on the edge of the biggest oil drilling areas opened in dozens of years. The farther you go east, the higher the prices. Word was that drilling has started about 110 miles north of Billings, and hotel rates everywhere have gone through the moon! Try getting a room in Williston, North Dakota. The high prices have spilled down to Billings, even though the crowds aren't there. The local hotels are charging high prices with low occupancy and waiting until occupancy picks up.

I stayed at this hotel regularly when it was a Ramada (the wi-fi still says Ramada). Howard Johnson has improved the appearance of the rooms and the beds, but the rooms are small, the bathrooms tiny and it was just ok. The breakfast was lousy, no fruit of any kind (unless you count the raisins in the cereal), the juice well watered. You can ignore all that if you have the kids with you, because they have the indoor pool/water park.

Best plan for Billings? Stay someplace else. The high rates there aren't worth it, and the locals will start complaining if the tourists stop showing up and spending money. If you travel on business and can get your work done in a day, drive in and out in the same day from Bozeman (west) or Sheridan, WY (east, but pretty pricey as well). If you have to go, you'll have to pay, and if you are working the oil boom, you are going to pay AND drive in and out same day, because there are almost no rooms anywhere the drilling is happening.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far from the pool unless you have the kids with you and want all that noise in the ha...

Stayed at this hotel with no other option. It was the last place available in Billings and just because of that they raised their rates to $269.99 for a standard room that is normally $80. The room was far below average. The room was dirty and very worn and the staff was rude. We attempted to contact Howard Johnson's corporate office to complain. They were equally as rude and we received no compensation. We will never stay at another Howard Johnson or any other affiliated hotel!

Room Tip: Don't go here

After calling several Billings hotels only to find them completely booked, we called this one, because we were told they had vacancies. We were quoted a very high rate, but took it fearing we would find anywhere else. When we checked in several hours later, they couldn't find our reservation and were rather curt about it. Also the guy already checking in paid 50% less for a room. They had filed our reservation under a different spelling. I wish they hadn't found it. The keys we were given did not work and when we finally got into the room we checked the bed only to find the sheets had dirt and crumbs from a previous tenant. They had someone come to change the sheets and she asked "do you want clean pillow covers too?": The ones she brought were practically in taters.

Because of an emergency, I was forced to cancel the second night of my stay. The front desk made the cancellation with the assurance that "everything was taken care of." However, they charged my card anyway after I left. This was not what I expected by "everything being taken care of." The front desk may or may not be responsive, give its staff's need to spend most of its time outside smoking. Their attitude was oafish, unprofessional, and boorish. In addition, the room smelled of urine.

We decided on the spur of the moment to spend the weekend in Billings. Once we arrived we soon found out that all the rooms were booked in the city. After eight attempts to locate a room we finally found a room at Howard Johnson. The price was outrageous and for the price we paid, I expected better.

Our room was poorly lit, smelled as if it were a smoking room at one time, the paint and carpentry was BAD, there was condensation nastiness on our air conditioner, the tub didn't drain well, the floor looked like it hadn't seen a mop in ages and there were stains on the box mattresses. There was no fridge although there was a safe in the closet.

Not only that, the hot tub we tried was murky and cold; the pool was bone chilling (there was a pool slide and the kids in the pool appeared to be enjoying it.) When I went to voice my concern to the desk clerk she was offish and rude. The whole experience made me feel gross and I cried for an hour worried about bed bugs.

Room Tip: Book before leaving home

For the cost of the room and having to pay to use the pool it was unreal, we would not take a shower with all the mold spores lurking in the shower, and not to mention the telephone that had no dial pad or numbers on it, it was awful, entered the room with flies greeting us at the door, as for the cliental that was also coming and going not sure if it was even a safe place to stay, had to say we bolted out of there very quickly, the only thing clean in this enviroment was the POOL... one of the spas the jets weren't working...just an awful awful AWFUL place to stay.
