Met old friends for reunion. Signed up last, so had to splurge on large 2 bd room condo. Very new and nicely appointed. View of flathead lake Unit #19-perfect! Nice granite countertops, nice appliances, fireplace, living room, dining area, guest powder grill and washer/dryer! Town of big fork is lovely but don't miss...the short drive to Glacier National Park! Awesome! Boat ride on flathead lake is beautiful too. I agree Montana is LBP..

We stayed in the Courtyard building in Rm 135 . First off, the smell when you walked in was a musty basement smell. Carpets were very dirty and fraying in spots. The TV in the bedroom was from 1989 and did not work at all (decoration I guess). The TV in the living area was a 19" 1995 TV with a built-in DVD player that also did not work. My husband developed allergies he never knew he had while being in the room. My son got sick during the stay and we had to strip the bed. Even though the maid came in to clean the room the next day, new sheets were never put back on the bed. They just threw the blanket and bedspread back on.

I believe these are all privately owned condos, and if that is the case Marina Cay needs to hold owners to a certain standard.

The only good thing I will say about the resort is the staff at the Tiki bar was very accommodating and friendly.

I shared unit B105 with my fiancé for three nights. First, the positives:

- The setting is quite beautiful. The marina itself is very calming, and the grounds are carefully decorated with beautiful flowers. We spent quite a bit of time on the lawn.

- Despite some other reviews here, I actually found the staff quite friendly. They were also helpful, particularly as it related to helping us find things to do in town.

- There is plenty of parking, and all of it is quite close to the units; no long walks necessary.

- The rooms are spacious and definitely provide plenty of room to spread out.

However, here are a few thoughts to consider when deciding whether to go to the Marina Cay.

- Housekeeping is not a standard service for many of the units. Note: I am not kidding. We literally had the same towels and sheets during our fourth day that we did on the first. We paid $1100 for three nights. Let that sink in for a moment.

- I agree with the other reviews that complain about maintenance. Example: our entry-mat sat in a recessed area in the sidewalk that was always saturated in water, condensation from the window unit air conditioner above it; disgusting and probably unhealthy. Example: the cord used to pull the blinds in the living room was broken. Example: there were crumbs on the nightstand in one room and significant dust in one bedroom; we spent the first 20 minutes or so cleaning, using the paper towels from the kitchen. Example: there was no iron / ironing board in our unit, and when we had one brought, the ironing board cover had a burned spot in the center that rubbed off on the first t-shirt I ironed. Example: while the rooms do come with small vials of shampoo (that are not renewed), they do not come with conditioner or any of a variety of other necessities that you typically see from resorts like the Marina Cay. Example: when I called to complain about the large, black stain in the middle of the living room floor, I was told that they did not own the units – they only managed them – and that the owner would have to address that problem. Huh?

- The staff, while friendly, seems busy and not empowered with much flexibility. Example: we realized that our flight left at 4pm, so we asked for a later checkout than the 11am deadline. We were told flatly no. In around 500 stays in hotels, I have probably asked for a late checkout allowance 50 times and have been told “no” twice. This was one of them.

After returning from my vacation, I called to speak with the manager, reflecting my experiences and asking for an adjustment to my bill, particularly after realizing that other units had housekeeping service. She said that she understood my concerns and would bring it up at their “meeting.” She explained that they were under new management and that they were working out some transitional difficulties. This conversation happened over a month ago and I have not heard back. Not surprisingly, my bill has not been adjusted.

I personally will not return to Marina Cay, and I would be surprised to find out that many of their guests are repeats. However, if you do, my advice is to require them to put you in one of the newer, more remodeled units and guarantee that housekeeping is a standard service.

We stayed at the Marina Cay from Aug 27th to Sept 1 in Building R. We had a small view of the water. The condo was pretty nice...would have been better if it was cleaned. Dog hair all over the couch and couch pillows and that wound up on everything else. There were empty water bottles left in/on the nightstand in the master bedroom. The patio was littered with cigarette butts and someone put a wax candle on the hot grill which melted down the front of it and we had to clean it prior to using it. The garbage disposal did not work (they did come out and fix it.) The thermostat was set by management and was locked so we could not keep it cool at night without leaving windows and doors open. That brings us to the next problem. There was a large wedding party in the rooms on either side of us and they started partying on Thursday night/Friday morning and kept going all the way through Sunday. Despite numerous attempts to get them to quiet down, they kept going. Marina Cay has night time security on site that rides around in a golf cart. Apparently security didn't care about other people being kept up for 2-4 hours (until 4am) at night with the party going on as they would pull up in their cart and then drive off without talking to anybody. For the price (Nearly 4K) , you would expect some kitchen items (Paper towel, extra garbage bags, tinfoil, etc). The patio furniture was severely weathered and nearly broke while sitting on it. As stated above, for the price we should have rented a furnished house along the lake. (Another family friend rented a huge house right on the lake for about $2500)

Loved the lodging here and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Stayed here 4 nights in July and had a blast. Very relaxing... Marina staff was friendly and helpful. Location in Big Fork is ideal as well. Great Pool and excellent jet ski rental process and pricing.

We stayed here for 5 nights in August 2012. We rented a two bedroom unit in Bayside. It was very nice with a kitchen, living room, 2 baths, and a large master bedroom overlooking the water. Enjoyed many evenings on the balcony watching the lights of Bigfork and boats coming and going. We enjoyed several mornings kayaking--had to launch our kayaks from a marina slip as no walk in access to the water but it worked fine. We ended up storing our kayaks in front of our unit as no staff seemed sure where we could keep them out of the water. The kids enjoyed the pool on a couple of evenings--the hot tub is quite small (large enough for 4 to 5 adults comfortablyy maximum) so if another group showed up it was too small for all of us (the e were 4 in our group). The marina does offer gas for boats although you will have to put your boat in the water across the small bay as there is no boat launch at the resort.

Pros: large units, boat rentals available at the resort, pool
Cons: limited parking, did not have same cable service in all the bedrooms so the boys watched in the living room, no maid service each day--had to empty our own garbage and haul it up the hill to a dumpster, were told we could check in an hour early but the room was not ready when we arrived

There is no fitness room although shown on map also there is only one pool available (the facility map is confusing--part of property is gated offf)

Room Tip: Bayside building is right by the water--nice to be able to look out onto bay

My wife and I were at this resort from Aug.4-11. We exchanged in through the RCI program. The location of this property is perfect for exploring the area. Short day trips will allow you to explore the area around Flathead lake as well as Whitefish and Kalispel. The resort itself it very comfortable with a pool, hot tub, and Tiki bar all overlooking the marina. The resort also had a restaurant but we never tried it. Marina Cay is located ideally for a short walk into downtown Bigfork, a small spot right on the end of the bay. The town itself has many restaurants, bars, and art galleries, however it's claim to fame is a summer playhouse which offers excellent musicals, well performed. We stayed in 2 bedroom unit in the west ridge building. We had an excellent view of the lake/marina and spent many mornings/evenings on our deck enjoying the view. The unit was nicely appointed and decorated with an air conditioner in each bedroom and a larger one for the main unit. My only complaint was the poor selection of cooking utensils and only 1 BBQ for both Ridge buildings. These issues would not stop me from staying here again. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing week.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have great views
