Description: El Topo is a casual, Taqueria (southern californian) type Mexican restaurant, and serves many families. Seating is first come, first serve. We feature a children's menu, a full bar with hand made Margaritas and Mexican draft beers, along with a menu of homemade food that consists of tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, 5 kinds of Fajitas, and several house special dishes such as Pork Verde, Chili Coloraldo, Pork Carnitas, and a nice selection of salads and soups, all made from scratch. Vegetarian and gluten free items are available, and our Pinto beans, Black beans, and rice are all non meat. The Guacamole is made fresh daily along with our salsa and hot corn chips, which we charge $1.50 For....And well worth it, (same price for 24 years). We get real busy in the summer, so please be patient with us. Tell us what you need and ask us about what you want. Viva La Mexico!

I wish we still had an El Topo in Missoula! The food is delicious and the margaritas quenching! I especially enjoy the fish tacos and smothered burritos!

“The ONLY decent Mexican food we've found in Montana”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

We live in Kalispell, but grew up in Colorado and New Mexico. There are so many great mexican food places in both states that we were sorely disappointed in Montana's comparative offerings until we stopped in here. They are as close as we've found and really are very very good. Hubby wishes for a tad hotter chile, and maybe a few more onions, but we LOVE it anyway.

Worth the drive, worth the price and nice people too!

(Margaritas are nom nom nom also : >)

“Finally, Mexican food worth a drive in Montana”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

For years we had heard of a "good" Mexican restaurant in BigFork and had not had the opportunity to stop and check it out. On a recent anniversary trip, we stopped in, cautiously at first ordering just an appetizer, then dinner. The beans were perfect, a feat that is more difficult than it looks, and the service was great. Our dinners were not quite like the Tex-Mex we lived on for 40 years in Texas, but were closer than almost any restaurant we have tried in Montana in 12 years. The fajitas were an interesting twist on the traditional dish, with a slightly different array of peppers in the marinade, but a very likeable flavor in the end. The restaurant makes a big deal of the margaritas, and they were good, but a good Mexican restaurant focuses on the food. A bar can make good margaritas. If I have any advice for the management of El Topo, it would be to shift the restaurant to being a food establishment with bar service rather than a bar with good food. I understand the bottom line, but if you serve it, they will come. In summary, I will now favor this drive from Missoula to BigFork rather than the three hour drive to Couer de Alene for El Toro Viejo.

“Fantastic decor/feel...food was really tasty...decent marguerita!”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

A really neat vibe in El Topo considering it's highway roadside location - you are a bit transported to Mexico in Montana. Big servings, hot, tasty food. Not overly spiced - which will suit some and perhaps disappoint diehards. They made us a pretty good marguerita - although at $11.50 for the 'good stuff' tequila - I would hope so! Nice, friendly service. No reservation required but we were eating at about 8 pm on a low season Friday night. Try it!

“The Best Shrimp Tacos Ever!”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

If you are in the Bigfork area, this place is a must for dinner! I make it up to Bigfork at least once a year and eating their shrimp tacos is always something I look forward to, they are outstanding! The bar is also nice and comfortable as well as the restaurant area. The service has always been top notch as well.
