“Very good location with attentive staff”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

If you were coming for the mountain itself or proximity to the ski lifts or hiking trails around the ski areas, this is in a great location. The rooms were large and clean, though a bit dated, and the staff was very professional and thoughtful throughout my three-day stay. The beds were large and comfortable, as well.

The biggest complaint voiced by others is the noise transmission throughout the facility, and this is certainly an issue, particularly if you are not on the top floor. Though I appreciated the ear plugs, an update to the rooms, with some additional wall insulation, would be better.

There are some stores in the village below if you are looking for basic food/snack supplies, and the food at some of the restaurants on top of the mountain is very good. The area is also near some very good trails in the Gallatin National Forest, including the Cinnamon Lookout Trail.

Room Tip: Ask for a view out the back of the hotel toward the mountain.

Just returned from 4 night stay at the Huntley Lodge in Big Sky,Montana. We had never been to Montana before and we were not disappointed. Wonderful place, gorgeous scenery, plenty of nice restaurants and every place was staffed with young energetic staff that were helpful and eager to please. We took tram to the top of Lone Peak Mountain which is right outside your door. Views are incredible. Location of the Lodge is just steps away from the base camp where all the activities start from. Spent one day on a guided tour of Yellowstone which was about 1 drive away. I would recommend going with a guide as you can see all the important sights in one day and avoid some of the crowds. The area abounds with wildlife so bring the good camera. Enjoyed the Huntley, room was perfect, staff was terrific and hope to return again soon.

This hotel is in an incredibly scenic area. The rooms are large, with a small table and a little kitchenette area with a fridge, coffee maker, and sink. The room and the bathroom are impeccably clean. Upon check in we received a call to see how our room was, and if we needed anything. The staff is incredibly attentive. The rooms do have paper thin walls and ceiling which the hotel addresses by leaving ear plugs next to the bed. The swimming pool is wonderful! It is incredibly warm and very clean. The buffet is also very good, and has a nice selection. Yes, nothing is made to order, but it is still great. We used this hotel as our gateway to Yellowstone, the hour drive each way is beautiful, but just be aware that it is a lot farther than the website leads you to believe. I would highly recommend this hotel, and I would definitely stay here again.

The rooms come with earplugs because you absolutely couldn't sleep without them unless there is nobody else staying in your wing of the hotel. It is SO LOUD. Every time the people in the room upstairs from is rolled over the creaking from their bed woke us up. The "free" breakfast ended up costing us 20 minutes of waiting for someone to come to our table and the time it took to drive down the hill to another restaurant as well as the cost of that breakfast. There's got to be a better option. The Huntley is not cheap enough to justify these major flaws.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are very sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with your stay. The Historic Huntley Hotel is one of Big Sky's oldest buildings, and with all that history and character come some quirks as well. Our team is aware of some of the noise issues you noted and is continuing to working to make our guest's stay more enjoyable.

We will share your comments about the slow breakfast service with our team, and use them to make your next stay with us more enjoyable. If the Huntley is not to your liking may we suggest one of several other options in the Mountain Village. The Shoshone, Summit Hotel and Village Center all offer the same convenience and may provide a more comfortable and quiet experience you are seeking. If there is anything our team can do to assist you during your next visit to Big Sky please contact us directly at info@bigskyresort.com.

If you don't have money to waste, Huntley Lodge is your place to stay at Big Sky, Montana. It is close to the slopes (in fact, almost on the slopes) the rooms are clean and big and the staff is friendly (to a point you wonder if they are on some kind of drugs). The breakfast is exstensive, but everybody needs to be escorted to their table, so there is always a long waiting line. The hotel has some more issues: the walls and ceilings are super thin, so if your neighbour farts, you will hear it. If the people upstairs are awake, you will be as well. If somebody in the general area of your room uses the shower, it will sound as if there is a river running through your room. There are a lot of families with children in the hotel, be aware! After 3pm, the pool is mostly full of kids, so be ready for some splashing. The 2 hot tubs were not very clean, there was an issue with the filter system. One day the hotel sent some poor guy to clean them, that didn't help at all. On several days our room was not cleaned before 4pm, not very convenient when you're coming back from a day on the slopes. All in all, I would not recommend this hotel, but all the other places are much more expensive and/or in worse locations, so...

Room Tip: try for a room on the top floor, at least you will not have people above you to make noise

I stayed four nights here from Mar. 30th - Apr. 3rd, 2014 while skiing Big Sky Resort. Lets start out with the heavy check-in crowd which the staff handled very well and we were in our 2nd floor room in no time. The room is a good size with a good layout. My only complaints on the room are the very thin walls. We could hear every single footstep in the room above us. That could be a real problem for light sleepers. Also when the groomers start going at night, man it sounds like there right outside your room. My second complaint is the absence of a microwave which comes in handy when you want to skip the $10 burger for lunch by heating up leftovers in the room. My last complaint is the lighting in the bathroom is very flickery and is showing it's age. Other than that, the room was much nicer than I thought it would be by reading previous reviews. The beds were very comfortable and there was a good size desk and a nice view. The overall atmosphere of the lodge was very rustic and nice with comfortable seating everywhere you go and multiple fireplace lounges to relax in. The pool is nice with two hot tubs and a lack of towels. When the lifts close at 4:00 pm the pool really gets busy. The location of this lodge is very close to the lifts and to the mountain mall. The breakfast, oh it's quite something, arguably better than some all-inclusive mexican resort buffets. The Huntley Dining Room (HDR) is where the breakfast buffet is held. The Shoshone Condiminium and Village Center share this breakfast as well so there is a large line-up around 7:30 am so I recommend going around 7. The breakfast includes the best waffles and scrambled eggs ever, along with pancakes, omelettes, sausages, bacon, biscuits n' gravy and a whole bar of fruit, pastries, cereal, toast, yogurt, etc... The breakfast is free with the booking. Now we booked on the Big Sky website under the ski and stay package so you get a very good rate with reduced lift ticket prices and the outstanding braekfast. I would definitely stay at the Huntley again.

Room Tip: 3rd floor rooms would be quiet

The only place I have ever stayed where ear plugs are standard issue with the room. Very thin walls and creaky floors. Loud children and adults at all times of the day and night with no hotel staff patrolling the halls. Bed sheets pulled up but not made. Loud and obnoxious hotel. Save your money and stay in the valley.
