“Fantastic ski in, ski out accomodations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

My husband and I recently stayed in one of Moonlight Basin's 2 bedroom/2 bath cabins. The cabins feature a fully equipped kitchen (gas bbq on the deck) and good sized living room replete with a gas fireplace and flatscreen TV/cable. The kitchen has fridge, stove and, most importantly, a dishwasher! There was even a crockpot in the cupboards. All have a hot tub on the front deck which is perfect for soothing tired muscles after a long day skiing. We sat in the hot tub every evening watching the groomers groom the runs and stargazing at the big Montana night sky. AMAZING! We also sat in the hot tub early every morning and were gifted with amazing sunrises. The master bedroom had a HUGE bed (california king I think), its own TV, bathroom (stand up shower/no tub), and loads of closet/storage space. The other bedroom featured a double bed on bottom/single bunk above with bathroom in the hallway w/shower/tub combo. These cabins would easily sleep 5-8 if kids slept in sleeping bags/shared beds and would be perfect for a family as you could ski out, ski in to eat lunch, ski back out for the afternoon. If someone got tired, they would have a very comfortable place to hang out in and entertain themselves. There are some restuarants that will deliver to the cabins (pizza, sandwiches, etc) as well as a grocery store in Big Sky where you can buy supplies you might have forgotten when packing. The only downside is that you have to pay for wireless internet service ($9.95/day); one would think that when you're paying $350/night, you would get wireless services. Cell phones do have good service there and the cabins have landlines. Be aware that there is a 3 night minimum stay and you don't get maid service unless you're staying atleast 7 nights. You're less than 15 minutes from the Big Sky ski resort if you choose to ski over there. Since Moonlight Basin is all north-facing, the snow stays better (less icy) for ski conditions than BS does.

Room Tip: The cabins on Cabin Hollow are the highest up the hill and feature the best views.

If it's clean air, spectacular vistas, outdoor fun and really nice people, check out Moonlight Basin. It's the newer part of the Big Sky development, with an abundance of quality lodging options. We took a summer trip to Moonlight Basin Resort in Big Sky and stayed in one of the 3-4 bedroom Mountain Homes. It's easy to hike up the mountain from the house, or down to the lodge for dining, exercise room and spa. The front desk staff and waiters were a little clueless, but very nice -- don't expect a concierge or fine dining experience. The Dining Room was not the best value, but eating on the patio at sunset on the buffet night was a memorable experience. Jacuzzi on the deck was wonderful after an active day. We'd go back again in a heartbeat - amazing mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, Yellowstone, skeet shooting, river rafting and wildlife watching.

Room Tip: Condos and Mountain Homes are both nice - if you intend to walk to the lodge, ask for one close by...

Eagle Mount Bozeman hosted it's first ever EMBLEM Summer camp for wounded warriors at Monnlight Basin in September 2012 and it was a first class experience all the way. All of the accomodations for our group were fantastic, very comfortable with great views. The North Slope Deli was a great breakfast stop and the Jack Creek Grille served up two excellent dinners for us during our stay. Everyone on the staff from the restaurant crew, to the front desk group, to the Golf Course staff, and the management group treated us to a once in a lifetime experience. Truly a memorable trip.

We stayed over here for two nights during our ongoing road trip, selecting a cabin for six. Cabin itself was great overlooking valley with hot tub on the patio. Small downside are beds, which in our opinion are travel lodge standard, not 3* or 4*, but whilst I slept my daughters did not.

As regards the resorts pool etc, looked great, however, in the summer only opens around 9 or 10 till 7pm. We were oout for the day in Yellowstone, about 90 mins away, so returned after 7 and never got to use them. Also, front desk starts anytime between 9 and 10 in summer, but 7 in winter. Appreciate its a ski resort, but we noted many cabins had guests staying, so this area could be looked at.

Finally, GPS does not pick this place out. Whe nyou come in on the main road, you have to take a guess if its the left road or righ road in the town square as there is no sign posting and next to noboy around. As a result we took wrong turn and spent about an hour going up the mountain before finding the resort.

We stayed in the Cowboy cabins. It was more of a luxury mountain home versus a rustic cabin. It was very clean and tastefully decorated. Our 17 year old niece enjoyed the hot tub on the porch overlooking the valley. My husband and I enjoyed Jack Creek Grille. The bison short ribs were excellent. I also had a wonderful and amazing massage by the Japanese therapist in the Moonligt Spa. We can't wait to go back!!

Moonlight Basin's terrain has something for everyone; from long rolling scenic groomers for the family, to the rowdy northern-facing cirques of the Headwaters and the Summit Snowfield (accessible with a joint lift ticket to Big Sky). You want to get away? You want solace and peace? Come check out the Dark Side of Lone Peak: Moonlight Basin.

We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom lodges right on the mountain, near the main lodge. Great location, great snow and fantastic time had by all. We will be back again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing directly to the ski lifts in the front row, and up near the lodge.
