We stayed at Pian di Cascina for 9 days during April and found it to be a very convenient and comfortable base for travelling to the areas of Umbria that we had intended. We were two families, 4 adults and 5 children in total. We stayed in the (3 bedroom) Gubbio apartment and the (2 bedroom) Assisi apartment, which are co-located at the end of the row of apartments in a converted barn off the main building. The location was chosen for proximity to Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia and other places that we wanted to visit (Urbino being the furthest but still a very comfortable day trip). The caves at Frasassi were also close by, although we didn't know about them until we got to the villa (they are spectacular and well worth a visit). Paul and Isabel were lovely hosts. Very keen to help and always available to do so, but otherwise very unobtrusive. The information provided in the rooms regarding local towns and attractions was fantastic. Detailed instructions on where to find the best parking when visiting local towns can make a big difference! Paul and Isabel also organised an Easter egg hunt for our children (and theirs) on Easter Sunday which was a lovely touch. The accommodation was clean and very thoughtfully set up for children in particular. The furnishings were not luxurious, but were perfectly comfortable and appropriate for our group. The views are spectacular at the villa and on the surrounding roads. Isabel is a wonderful hostess at the on-site restaurant. The food was amongst the best we had in Italy, and Isabel is a delight to talk to. And the very short journey home after a few nice bottles of wine with dinner was unbeatable! The homemade lasagne on arrival was both delicious and very welcome after the travel there. We had it on our last night also. The pool was not open as it was still cool when we visited, but it is big and certainly looked like it would be a wonderful spot to while away a warm summer's day. The grounds were fantastic for the younger children to run around in and get lost through the olive groves and small woodland areas. All in all we had a fantastic time and are grateful to Paul and Isabel for making us feel so welcome and ensuring we had everything we could need.

Room Tip: It is worth understanding the layout of the property, as the apartments off the main house are side...

I always write my reviews starting with the bottom line, so those not inclined dont have to troll through my full review - so "You wont find better, the accomodation, vacillities, hosts, cuisine attention to detail are wonderful - both for families and older groups.

Paul and Isabel made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived - and the service kept coming when we needed it. The accomodation was clean, homely , and so well equipped, you didnt feel you were in holiday accomodation more your home from home.

Service must be having your breakfast crossantes delivered to your villa each morning

Isabel is a stunning cook, and as my wife does this professionally so we know a bit - so the trips to the Tavernetta, (conveniently on site) were a jewel - we didnt miss one night they were open - and the bulk of ingredients coming from Pian de Cascina - It was so nice to watch your host (Paul)muttering whilst he digs your spuds for dinner!

The pool is big enough to seriously swim, not just a splash to each end - and Paul spends a great deal of time making sure its kept clean and tidy

The area has all the tourist visits for every taste and the village has all that is needed to use the good BBQ on each and every private terrace

This couple earn their success - and deserve every bit of recognition for providing us with a great holiday, as they say we will return!

Dont miss the produce - jms, olive oil etc. its not cheap, but quality is never cheap!

Room Tip: Hire a car with a nice meaty engine - the track up to Pian is steep and can get very rough - you nee...

We went to Pian di Cascina with my brother and his wife and two young children, so there were 4 adults and 4 children under 8 in the 4 bedroomed Cascina. It was spotlessly clean and well-equipped, with thoughtful additions for the younger children including stairgates, toys and DVDs. Paul and Isabel were friendly hosts that were there if you needed them. The views from both sides of the villa were absolutely stunning, enjoyed both from useful private outdoor terrace area (with BBQ, which we barbequed some amazing local steaks on) and the impressively large swimming pool (which was essential in the 40 degree heat during our week). We spent a few days just relaxing by the pool, and playing in the 'park' (well equipped with activities for younger children), as well as day trips to Gubbio ('cable car' does not describe the Funivia at all!!!), Assisi and the Frasassi caves; all of which were perfectly described in the villa book with tips on parking and restaurants which were all spot on. Isabel's La Tavernetta was amazingly delicious and you won't get any better views with such an honest tasty dinner. The farm's commitment to organic produce and environmental impact was the icing on the cake for us. We would highly recommend this place. One word of warning - Rome airport was a NIGHTMARE - an hour for the baggage followed by 3, yes 3 hours' wait for our hire car. Make sure you investigate all other airport options with the owners if you are going in peak holiday season.

Room Tip: The villa relies on its thick stone walls to keep it cool. If the weather is very hot (it was 40 de...

We have just returned from a wonderful two week family holiday at Pian Di Cascina. Everyone came back relaxed and happy, which is not an easy job with 15 and 13 year old children to please.

Pian Di Cascina is simply the most perfectly relaxing and beautiful of places for a holiday. The surrounding scenery is the best antidote to a hectic and busy lifestyle - it invites you to just stop and chill out. Which is precisely what we did.

That said we did plenty of sightseeing too, Gubbio, Assisi, Perugia and Orvieto are all worth a visit as are the caves at Frassassi and on hot days take a trip up Monte Cucco to the woods for a cool picnic. All of these trips were made easier thanks to the comprehensive information supplied by Paul and Isabel in each apartment.

The accommodation was spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything that you might need during your stay. The large swimming pool (again spotless) was well used by us all at different times of the day and never felt crowded or too noisy.

Take advantage of booking a lasagne for your arrival and have delicious bread and croissants delivered fresh for breakfast each morning, a real treat. However, our number one recommendation if you stay here is to eat at La Tavernatta. Isabel's cooking really is amazing and was the best food we had during our holiday. Its the reason we've booked to go back next year.

As a family we have stayed in a number of similar types of property and I have to say that this was absolutely the best by far. The whole experience was 5 star and the food deserves a Michelin rating. During our week in Umbria we certainly did a lot of eating and drinking however the food and wine we had "back at base" was far and away the best...with the added bonus that it was just a small stumble in to bed!

The house was spotlessly clean (and for someone with a touch of OCD that is high praise!) Paul and Isabel are wonderful hosts and they made our family feel most welcome. I would definitely recommend Pian di Cascina for those with small kids as there is plenty to keep them occupied and they are not made to feel a nuisance to other guests. 5/5!

We arrived late on Saturday night after a delayed flight into Rome. It was easy to find with a sat nav and the supplied directions.

We had a great nights sleep in the thick walled 4 bedroomed house. huge bathrooms.. 1 per bedroom. The house was spotless and robust.. something you appreciate with 2 children under 6.

Our children were keen to use the Large pool the next morning and with a handfull of other familys with young kids saying good morning and hi the whole place was very very safe and friendly.  our 2 year old loved the corner spash pool and outdoor shower.

High quality food in the restaurant on site was the finest we experienced all week. The truffle lasagnia is the best thing ive ever eaten !

At the end of the holiday our Children said they loved the pool, the play area and the cable car in Gubbio. We loved the safe, high quality accommodation and outstanding hosts.

I must also mention we picked up a slow flat in our hire car on the journey over. Paul arranged a foot pump then a local mechanic to have it fixed in less than an hour the next morning.. People like this can make your holiday. I would recomend a stay here to anyone wanting an amazing holiday in Italy.

We thought Pian di Cascina was lovely for a family holiday - even though our holiday didn't quite go as planned owing to my wife spending a week in the local hospital where she had her appendix removed!

In the (hopefully) unlikely event that future guests need to use the local hospital then we found Paul and Isabel very helpful and reassuring and the medical facilities at Branca hospital were very good. Pian di Cascina is the perfect place for rest and relaxation - whether in normal circumstances or when recovering from unexpected major surgery!
