“Excellent!!”
Reviewed December 17, 2012 via mobile

We stayed for one night while conducting business in West Plains. We have stayed at several HIExpresses with various degrees of quality. This is the nicest one we have ever stayed at. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and did not have that funky disinfectant smell. The pool area - immaculate. But best of all, comfortable pillows!!! We had stayed at a five star pricey hotel in Little Rock the evening before and the pillows were awful - as in no sleep for either of us AWFUL!!! West Plains, HI, you should be proud for a very well run establishment!

The staff are great here but be aware that this two story hotel has no elevator or fitness room. However they have a great indoor hot tub and pool. The staff are very helpful. There are plenty of electrical outlets for computer and cell phone chargers. Clean, safe and a good place to stay in this small town.

Room Tip: Stick to the first floor near end of hall

Thank you for the compliment on our staff. Although we do not have an elevator each staff member is available to help carry luggage and supplies that our guest bring. I am glad you found our "extra" outlets in the room. We positioned them on top of the desk area for our guests, this way you do not have to hunt for them near the floor. Once again thank you for the response, it has been passed to our corporate level for review.

We recently stayed here for one night. As usual, Holiday Inn Express doesn't disappoint. Nice room. Although simple, it had everything we needed. Comfortable beds. Very clean. Nice pool. Very good breakfast. Free wifi. I was impressed by the staff. Very nice, welcoming ladies. We have stayed in many hotels over the years and have never been asked with either of our kids if we would like a crib/pack n play, until now. The woman saw our toddler and asked. We brought our own but it was very thoughtful and appreciated!!! We would stay here again.

I stayed at this property for one one night while in the area on business. I reserved a room with a king bed, I was actually sold a room with two doubles at $89 per night.

The property in located adjacent to the main road through West Plains. The entrance is a little tricky as it appears a long ago road upgrade set the motel back from the road a little. GPS units will be confused but the location is signed well.

This property is obviously had a previous life. Present owners have spent significant dollars for a renovation but the age and long-term lack of attention took its toll. Those with disabilities must be aware that the motel lacks an elevator to access the second floor. The exterior of the property is clean, well lit but very plain. From the exterior nothing on-site seems particularly welcoming.

Check-in was a quick affair despite the challenge in providing the type of room that was reserved. The lobby area was clean, neat and the front desk staff member was polite and customer focused.

Interior hallways had a musty odor but appeared to be clean. They were well lit and room numbers were well marked. Door access card readers worked appropriately.

The guest room appeared clean, but a quick check of areas not immediately visible showed a build-up of dust and dirt. Overall cleaning efforts seemed to be superficial. Bedding was typical for the price point but the bed covers did concern me as they did not appear completely fresh. Internet speeds were appropriate and all electrical appliances in the room worked as advertised.

The bath area was clean with toiletries and towels as expected for the brand.

The morning breakfast was found to be well stocked and of above average quality. Staff in that area were found to be polite and helpful. They worked diligently to make certain that all items were constantly refreshed.

Check-out was a quick affair as charges were correct. Interestingly, I was not thanked for my business at check-out. It seemed that I had interrupted other work that the clerk was involved in.

With the limited lodging options available in the community, I would likely stay there again. However, the West Plains HIE simply doesn't measure up to peer properties in other areas.

Thank you for your candid response on your stay in June 2012. I would first like to apologize for the "dusty" appearance of the "hidden" spots in the room. I have met with my Executive Housekeeper and we are setting up special training with our room attendants to get this corrected immediately. We go through an extensive deep cleaning each quarter for each room but this seems to not be sufficient. I would also like to express my concern with you booking a room with a King bed and then being offered a room with 2 Queen beds upon check in. I can assure you this will be discussed with the front desk staff as we honor all booked reservations on room types, also in discussion will be the final "Thank You" upon check out. Our goal is for each guest to leave happy and want to return. We sincerely appreciate your business and hope you will give us a second chance when you return to our area.

This is the third hotel we've stayed at in West Plains and think its a great one! Check in was simple and easy, the staff always said hello, parking convenient and it's close to the main north/south roads into town, but was quiet there.
The room had two nice comfy beds with 4 pillows each, and they were marked soft and firm so you can decide how you want to sleep. The work desk area had 4 plugs on top so it was easy to plug all of our gadgets in (in addition to others throughout the room.) Fridge in the room kept things cold and while no microwave in the room, there was one in the lobby available at all times. During the day the front desk kept lemonade and cookies and fruit out for everyone to enjoy, which we did often. The shower had an adjustable shower head with 3 settings and it was hot and powerful (a plus in my book.). One thing the bathroom didn't have was a vent fan so it got real steamy in there, but otherwise was ok. Room was spotless when we checked in. We didn't use the maid service during our 3 days there, but they checked on us anyway just in case we needed something. Used the free wifi in the room and it was quick and easy to use.
Didnt make it to breakfast, but passed it on the last day and they appeared to have the usual toast, cereal, fruit and hot cinnamon rolls, eggs and sausage. Didnt take a closer look so they might have had other items, but that it what I could see. Front lounge area is nice and there appeared to be plenty of seating for breakfast.
Did use the indoor pool and hot spa (104 degrees!) this trip. We don't usually do this on vacation, but it was a do nothing vacation so we did nothing. The water in the pool, while cool, was swimmable and was refreshing after a few minutes in the hot spa. There were pool towels provided in the swim area and quite a few chairs to sit in and also recliners. It was spotless in the pool area as well. It was only open to 10pm which is a little early for us night owls and we wish it had stayed open longer, but it was a nice way to spend a little time relaxing between being out for the day and going to dinner.
The vending area and ice machines are located just outside the pool area down by the front desk/breakfast area so there's no noisy vending room outside the door of any room! A plus in my book as well.
Overall I would say this was number one hotel that we've stayed at in West Plains and wouldn't hesistate to stay here again. Thanks for the hospitality!

As others have stated on their reviews, this property can be difficult to find if you don't have mapquest directions or GPS. That said, this is a nice little place to stay. The room I had was roomy, very clean, and the bed was really comfy. The only issue I had was a dirty iron, but I called down to the front desk and in less than five minutes, a replacement was brought up to the room.

They have warm cookies and punch/coffee in the afternoon and early evening, in addition to the standard Holiday Inn Express breakfast of eggs, omelets, biscuit and gravy, pancakes (automated machine, kind of neat, and they were pretty good)' toast, cereal, etc. Breakfast bar was kept clean and well-stocked. Oh, don't forget the signature cinnamon rolls, they are pretty good too.

Front desk staff was friendly and quick. I would stay here again.

Stayed at this property several times as I traveled the area for work. The staff was incredibly welcoming. They had fresh baked cookies and a pitcher of iced tea and lemonade up front, as well as a stand with a microwave, plastic utensils, sweetener, and plates. Very handy!

I travel on a regular basis and this is be best HIE in Missouri, if not the Midwest!

Room Tip: I love staying on the first floor not far from the front desk. That way I can refill my beverage or...
