As a St Louisan for the past 33 years, I can tell you that finding good Mexican food here is tricky. Authentic Mexican food is even tougher. Hacienda has been around for a long time and is a good place for (American-style) Mexican food in "southern" West County. On the other hand, places like Siete Luminarias and others on Cherokee in South City offer more traditional Mexican food, in a bare-bones environment, in an iffy neighborhood. Good food, but no atmosphere. Milagro Modern Mexican is a nice compromise between the two, offering somewhat more authentic Mexican food along Webster Groves main drag, Lockwood. It is much smaller than Hacienda, but nicely decorated. It is a restaurant that is family-friendly, in a nice commercial neighborhood. There is a crafts shop right next to it that kids might enjoy as well. The restaurant is decorated with a Southwestern motif, but some nice modern twists. The prices are reasonable enough though not cheap. The food is excellent!! Service was more than satisfactory. Our group had wild mushroom quesadillas, the chicken enchiladas, and Combo #64 (there are no other combos, and our waitress was not sure why it is called #64). Anyway, all of it was delicious. The house salad was also great, featuring tomato and Mexican cheese. The tortilla soup was also tasty. We were full after all this but still shared the caramel apple empanada with ice cream for dessert. Superb!! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a great Mexican meal, with more authenticity than the usual places in St Louis, plus a nice ambience.
