“Going in the wrong direction”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

I have been a patron of American Bounty since the 90s. Most of the time it is a great place to dine. Good food, service, ambiance, outdoor garden and a ok wine list.
About six weeks back, on a Sunday, my wife and I stopped in for lunch. Wine was ok. Kate, the server, is always good. We both had different pastas. We asked that the sauce be made "lighter." It was but both were not very good.

A week later our neighbors asked us to recommend a restaurant as they were having a special occasion with family. The report is that the serving time was intolerable, the food came cold, the service was non-existent etc. We were embarrassed,

I hope someone from American Bounty sees this and does something about it. We are very hesitant to go back.

BC's Kitchen in Lake St. Louis is an example of what AB needs to emulate.

“Relaxing Lunch”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

Very nice and food was excellent! We had chicken salad with pasta salad. Lots of interesting things to see while there: Waterworks Antique Shop, Washington Museum which has old toll collectors from the bridge and beautiful zithers, and the Corn Cob Factory Museum which has a display that was from the 1904 World's Fair.

“Great food but don't plan on eating anytime soon”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

The food is excellent. We ordered one appetizer - Blue Crab Cigars, simple salads with Peanut Vinaigrette, French Onion soup. All three of us ordered the special - Beef Tenderloin with Blue Cheese crumbles in Puff Pastry with a Port reduction sauce and side of roasted potatoes and zucchini.

The building, patio, dining room and location are unique comfy chic. . If you don't like trains passing then sit inside; we happen to like the trains. The view of the river is beautiful. The night we were there the temperature was in the low 80s and the water looked blue and that's not usually the case with the muddy Missouri river. The staff was friendly. The food was worth the money and we didn't think it was overpriced for the quality and flavor.

All that said, I can't rate this better than Poor - because of the length of time it took to get our orders - from the drinks to the check. It was 20 minutes before the waitress appeared to take our drink order and another 20 minutes to get the drinks. Our one appetizer took 35 minutes to appear and it was cold and had to be sent back. They didn't charge us for the appetizer which was nice. Our salads and soup didn't arrive until 45 minutes after the appetizer arrived. Our entrees didn't arrive for 50 minutes after the appetizer plates were removed. We kept wondering what the length of time would be had the place been full or even semi-full. There were still tables available on the patio and the main dining room was empty.

This restaurant has the potential to be top notch but they need to get their act together about timing. There are less items on the menu than on the website menu but there is something unique for everyone. Unless we hear that the length of time for waiting improves, we would only return if we wanted to sit and have several drinks for an hour or so before we expect to eat anything. No one should expect to wait as long as we did and the others that have posted reviews on Trip Advisor.

Ironically, our waitress asked us - at the time of ordering - if we would be interested in the Green Apple Cobbler for dessert because it takes 30 minutes to prepare. Apparently, so do simple leaf salads.

“Not Going Back!”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

This restaurant, located near the river had no scenic view. Even though the restaurant was accommodating to special food needs, the service was exceptionally slow as it took over 1 hour before we received any appetizers or salads. Repeated requests for refills of bread because of the long waits between appetizers, salads and meals were found to be annoying.Soda drinks were kept refilled. The staff seem to walk around as if no one knew what was going on and didn't seem to care. The outside patio, which was small, rumbled with the continuous sounds of loud freight trains going by and the patio seats were terribly uncomfortable. The food was nothing special andover priced. For the type of restaurant that this is supposed to be, one would think that someone would take more care in watching the operations when a plate of pasta takes over 2 hours!
I would not recommend this restaurant and do not plan on going back!
