“Dont Stay Here”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2007

alright i stayed at the marina motel in the second week of may and had a horrible experience.............................

first off they put us in a handicap room with barely any room to move around the bed let alone the room, then comes the bathroom, as far a cleanliness it was ok except every time you run the water it smells like raw sewage. i called the desk to see if we could get another room and they told me that all the rooms smell like that because of a backed up well but we had family staying 2 doors down and they had no problems at all with the smell so i know that is not true. also our shower head popped off every time we took a shower and i called about it and she told me that i wouldnt be fixed until the next day which really did us no good at all since we were leaving at 8am

i called the front desk to talk to a manager and the person who is spoke with said she could help me, so i told her the problems and she didnt even offer me an apology she just told me to leave the key in the room when i check out

I checked out the owl haven motel before i left and though its not as close to the lake as the marina the rooms are bigger and better than the marina so dont make the same mistake i did and over pay

the marina 75 bucks and the owl haven is 40

just my opinion take it for what you will

We stayed at this "resort" for two nights while visiting relatives who keep a sailboat at the marina. The location was very convenient, a short walk or drive to the dock. The lodge is nothing fancy, very utilitarian. The door to the check-in desk was always locked (we were there during the weekdays, when things are pretty slow) and we had to ring a bell and wait for the door to be opened each time we needed to visit the front desk. The lady at the front counter wasn't very friendly and acted like our check-in was inconveniencing her. The rooms were pretty clean. Carpets could be vacuumed a little more thoroughly, but all-in-all, I would give the cleanliness rating an 8. Beds were uncomfortable (but that is a matter of how you like your mattress), too hard for me. Bathtowels, etc. were nice quality. Each room has an individual air conditioning unit, which is nice, but they were really loud. The hallways in the lodge are obviously not air-conditioned and are sweltering. Restaurant was closed on the days we were there. Marina is nice, though also utilitarian. One downfall is NO lighting of any kind on the docks, which made for a hazardous trek to the room at midnight, upon returning from dinner and drinks on the boat. Sailing was FANTASTIC... great wind, nice dock-neighbors, beautiful sailboats, very few powerboats or jet skis.....felt like we had the lake to ourselves at times. All in all, the rooms were nicer than I had expected, and the price at $65 is definately right.

  • Disliked — Check-in door being locked all the time, poor to no outdoor lighting
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't expect any luxuries, expect a camping trip with air-conditioning and hot showers!

My husband fished in a B.A.S.S. tournament over the week-end at Stockton Lake. The headquarters for the tournament was at the Orleans Marina, so it seemed only fitting that we stay at the hotel located there. The hotel is just right up the hill from the lake and was within walking distance to the tournament weigh-in area, which was very nice. There was plenty of room for the bass fisherman to park their rigs while they were weighing in their fish. It was a nice set-up. The marina also sells bait and tackle, has a guide service and rents boats (bass and pontoon), if you are interested. Their website is: [---]

The Orleans hotel is located just right outside of Stockton, MO and is right on the lake, although we really couldn't see much of the lake from the hotel due to the trees and our room location. We checked in on Sat. afternoon. The lobby area is really nice and the lady who checked us in was very cordial. The hotel allowed a late check-out until the tournament was over, which was extremely helpful since there's not much to do in the area for the wives. I didn't have to hurry to get out of the room, which was very relaxing. The rate was right around $70 a night. We had a two queen bed room - non-smoking, on the lower level, which was all they had available when we made our reservations about a month or so ago.

There are two parts to the Orleans property. There is the building that we stayed in, and across the street they have small cabin type buildings that are about $20 a night cheaper. Our building and the main building were recently renovated and you could tell. They looked new. We had a friend that stayed across the street who felt like the room was not worth the $54 he paid since it was very old and he only had a small television with rabbit ears. We had a 19-inch television as well, but had at least six channels through satellite television (CBS, Fox, ESPN, The Weather Channel, Cartoon Network and Showtime). The beds were pretty comfortable, although a bit soft for our taste. The room was pretty clean. However, there were a few dirty spots on the toilet seat and some dead bugs around the room. I found a large spider crawling along the baseboard. It's a lake property and we were on the bottom floor, so that is to be expected. The bathroom has nice tiles and the shower was clean with great light so you can see when you are shaving. We are tall and the shower head was tall enough to take a shower comfortably with great water pressure. The carpet and chair with ottoman looked new. There are two floors and the whole building is non-smoking. There is no elevator in the building. But, there is a door on the lower level and a gravel drive that leads up to a grassy area right by the door if you are not able to walk the two sets of stairs leading down to the lower level. By the way, the stairs are inside and are carpeted. There are two handicapped parking spaces and a ramp to the top floor. I have a disability and this was very handy.

There is a little restaurant adjoining the property right across the street. Our friend said they had the best spaghetti and meatballs he had ever eaten. We ate in town at the Sundae's drive-in. My husband had a pork tenderloin sandwich and onion rings. He said it was pretty good. I just had a corn dog. It was standard drive-in fare. There is also a Sonic Drive-In in town, a Subway, a neat little restaurant in a large log home type of building that has a breakfast ($4.99 inc. drink) and lunch buffet, two mexican restaurants, a couple of BBQ restaurants and a chinese buffet that our friend ate at and said was very good. There is a grocery store in town that has a deli in the back if you prefer that kind of stuff. There is a bowling alley outside of town as well.

We stay at hotels for at least 40 or more nights a year, so I feel I am a good judge of accommodations. Overall, I would highly recommend this property. There are not many hotels/motels in this small town, so this would be a great choice. I hope this helps.
