If you are looking for authentic Mexican haute Cuisine, do not look in Missouri (Duh!)
If you want a great mid-western experience.. Eat here. Springfield is a place a whole lot of people are from, or use to live here. When we come back our first stop is one of 200 places you can get "cashew chicken" and the second is the original Mexican Villa, by Phelps Grove Park, thought the food is the same in all of them, the original has the old table tops juke boxes and smells like love.
The Burrito enchilada style is proclaimed by many as "That's the best darn thing they have". I also love the tacos, enchiladas, and tamales. All you city slickers may think the Tiajuana sombreros on the wall are tacky and you don't understand the sauces...There is hot and there is sweet, and they give you little cups so you can mix them to your taste. I am home in Oxnard, CA where the best Mexican food on the planet is made yet I would sacrifice a major organ for an Enchilada style Burrito right now.

this was my wifes favorite place to go when we were in college...in the late 60's...took our family there several years ago...she was so excited......pretty dissappointing....very pedestiran and the salsa was like watered down ketchup

Mexican Villa the original location on National was a wonderful experience the ambiance, food quality and service were amazing. Make this a must visit place if you are in the Springfield MO area. Totally recommend the Sancho Enchilada Style and the Queso dip.

This restaurant, in the original location, is a Springfield icon. Went there recently, for the first time in years, and was rather disappointed. The chips were not warm and were rather stale tasting. The food was plentiful for the price but had no originality and no "zing". The best thing I can say about the restaurant was that the service was good. Otherwise, there are much better choices for Mexican food in town.
