“Love simple food!”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

My high-fallutin' friends would never eat here, let along give it five stars. But for me, it checks all the boxes. The food is good, the meals (with sides and rolls) are extremely generous, and the price is excellent. I have eaten at the Campbell St. restaurant several times as well as Cedars North once. I have chosen it over several other places in town.

The availability of breakfast for lunch was my first attraction. Everything was great - and others in my party could order lunch entrees while I enjoyed eggs. Upon return trips, the good food and great value won. The daily specials are listed on the board when you walk in; there are always a special in each category - e.g. chicken, beef, fish. There is something for everyone.

The rolls are super-sized - and also fabulous! (Family members make it a point to take them home if they can't eat them with the generous meal portions.)

The waitresses have been good to refill drinks, and the service is decent. I was quite impressed when I was ordering and given a choice of sides/potatoes. I said I didn't want any of those - and then the waitress offered other substitutions not listed on the menu! (I selected sliced tomatoes in place of french fries.) We have seen this happen multiple times.

The place is not pretentious - but nonetheless has some "country store" decor that provides some atmosphere.

Not a fancy place but the food is pure comfort food. Good bisquits and gravy and great breakfasts. Good food at reasonable prices.

“It's all about knowing what to expect...”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

I ate at Cedars North, which is in an old building, with old paneling, old booths... old everything. As long as you don't go in there expecting a four star atmosphere and appreciate comfort cooking, then this place is a rock star! A Springfield fixture, Cedars makes a rockin' chicken fried steak almost as big as the plate with gravy grandma would be proud of. Lots of daily specials; attentive wait staff; and prices that won't burst your wallet. I had a french dip sandwich with sauteed onions and fries. The portions were generous and the fries cooked perfectly.

“Don't waste a trip”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

I have had to go to this location over the yers to meet friends who just had to go here. I've never been impressed. Just another greasy spoon.
