Owner description: With views of the scenic Current River and a history as a corporate retreat, Current River State Park offers a peaceful haven for today’s visitor. The park is built around the former retreat of the Alton Box Board Co. of Alton, Ill. Constructed during the late 1930s and early 1940s, the Alton Club buildings themselves reflect the rustic architectural style used by the National Park Service in the early part of the 20th century. Today’s visitors to Current River State Park can enjoy hiking trails, two lakes and picnic sites. Park staff provides tours of the historic Alton Club buildings and explains the park’s history.

“Party river”
Reviewed August 16, 2009

We floated on a saturday. If you hear a boat running you better get out the way. This is a beautiful river. It was very populated and crowded, along with heavy drinking and even a fight as we loaded our gear. You will see lots of police, heavy drinkers, more tubes than kayaks or canoes, be aware of the motor boats. This is not a river I would take my family to at the end of summer. I might be open for an early fall float to check out the scenery when all the drunken tubers are gone.
