Description: Established in 1990 by Hank and Jackie Johnson, Chaumette Vineyards & Winery is located in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, home of the first colonial settlement on the west side of the Mississippi River by the French in the early 1730’s. Chaumette sits on 310 acres of land, 30 acres of which are grapevines, approximately seventy miles south of St. Louis, in the Ozark Mountain American Viticultural Area. The region, distinguished by rolling hills and the Saline Creek River Valley, is known to have a temperature differential of more than 5 degrees (warmer) compared to other Missouri wine regions, which is considered to be advantageous. Here at Chaumette, we are dedicated to handcrafting award-winning wines of distinction, and our diverse portfolio reflects the finest examples in breadth and depth of Midwest wine, capable of competing in the international marketplace. We grow varieties such as Norton, Missouri’s state grape; Chardonel, a hybrid of Chardonnay; Traminette, similar in style to one of its parent grapes, Gerwurztraminer; Chambourcin and Vignoles, all French-American hybrids. Chaumette is a boutique winery, producing between three and five thousand cases annually of mostly dry wines, with some semi-dry and semi-sweet styles as well as vintage port and late harvest wines in some years. Chaumette Winery has is a premier wine resort destination, with a spa, private villas for overnight stays, a pool and a full-service restaurant, among more traditional winery amenities. Chaumette’s Tasting Room is open to the public year-round and offers live entertainment outdoors in warmer months.

It's a beautiful setting and some of the wines are good. Food is about par with what other wineries serve altho during a holiday brunch, food was a little on the cold side. Personnel could be friendlier and sometimes there seems to be a hautiness to people at the tasting bar.

We enjoy visiting wineries around the country. This was our first trip to Chaumette. We found good wines, and last night we drank a bottle we brought home. This wine named Mosaic is an excellent red wine, light and fruity. It was like nothing else we've ever had. We recommend that one and wish we had bought more.

I chose to eat here because I had heard the chef uses most of his menu products from surrounding farms for both meat and grown vegetables. The menu was pricey but well worth it. Everything tasted extremely good. Because it was cold, we sat inside close to a roaring fire which gave the setting a very serene warm feeling. We had the lamb dish and the steak and frites. Both excellent. The roasted beet salad hit the spot for my date and I enjoyed the cream of mushroom soup. During warmer weather, the outdoor seating and the view would be incredible.

The view from the winery is amazing. The wine is excellent along with the food that the chef makes with local products including bison and elk. We ate there for lunch there on our first day there and went back the next day so that we could try different dishes.

Just can't say enough about this vineyard! Breath taking views, excellent food, and a variety of wines. Spacious tasting room. Inside dining and outside. Staff are so gracious to the patrons. Have opened an area called "The Barn" to hold special events. Just an awesome venue! They have a chapel on the property, as well as Villa's for overnight accomodations. Open all year. I visit a dozen times a year.
