“Mediocre at best...and that's a compliment...”
Reviewed December 20, 2012 via mobile

This aluminum boxcar dining room is located behind the Cracker Barrel, where the parking lot was full the evening we drove through town. The parking lot for this little place was absolutely empty, so we decided to try it out as we'd never heard of it before. After the meal, we realized why the parking lot was empty. Poor food is the reason. My husband had the vegetable soup, which the menu said was made fresh daily. LOL it was canned, trust me. I ordered the fried fish, which the waitress said was cod and delicious. It was NOT delicious...it was coated with too much hard crust that was fried too long. Yuck, I pealed off the coating and just ate the thin piece of fish. The wilted cole slaw was swimming in dressing that was not tasty. Really disappointed with this meal.

Although the place was empty, there were three waitresses standing around, with one training a new employee. Two young male employees were there, possibly the cooks. Six employees and the place was empty, except for us. After the bland food was served, five of them came out to the counter and stared at us, then some started complaining about their paychecks, as if the place was still empty and customers weren't within earshot. The employees were young, and it seemed like no one was in charge. We will not stop here again, and neither should you.

“Sometimes Simple is Better”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

While passing through St. Roberts, MO [home to the Army's Ft. Leonard Wood], we stumbled upon the 5 & Diner restaurant. Hidden behind the Cracker Barrel Restaurant, the shiny aluminum 'Diner' sat lonely in an empty parking lot!
Had we entered 'The Twilight Zone' and discovered a lost railroad dining car from the 'Santa Fe Chief'? My traveling companion from New York City immediately bonded with the facility. After all, she had grown up with urban diners just like it.
We left our vehicle and entered a long room of chrome booths and bar stools, red upholstery, and posters of 1950's train scenes. The cook and waitress were talkative, welcoming, and happy to have two mid-morning guests. They quickly prepared and served the food [reminiscent of International House of Pancakes], while we took in the fantasy.
We received a wonderfully-cooked, in-expensive, large breakfast. It was simple, fresh, and quick; and, we were back on the Interstate in record time.
The 5 & Diner is all about good food and good value. Check it out.

“Nice Little Diner”

This was another one of those places where it is proven that good food and fair prices still exist. The portions were large and the service was great!

Shakes, Burgers, & Fries with style. Rather than settleing for Cracker Barrell, give this place a try

“Normally good, new cook terrible”
Reviewed August 21, 2012 via mobile

This is usually a good place to eat. The new cook is super slow and burned my food after waiting forever. The poor waitress tried her best, I would avoid it til they get a new cook.
