The location at Union Station is worth the little extra you might spend on hotel because you make it back up by not renting a car. Pack a light bag and jump on their Metrolink(?) The Hyatt is right in the heart of the mall/Union Station with shops, Hooters, Hard Rock and a variety of entertainment offerings. Don't miss the fudge shop! Jump back on metro to Cards game, Arch, Bowling Hall of Fame etc... not super quick but cheap!
The Hyatt itself was a great place, busy but comfy! The linens alone are worth mentioning, wonderful bed and an apology from the executive housekeeper for a delay in the delivery of a bed ruffle...trust me, you wouldn't have noticed, very luxurious! The building itself is a historical treasure - a Romanesque Revival building with such care in conservation is an obvious choice for any art lover, why stay for the same price at a chain with no historical value. Not at all cramped or dirty as some of the other reviews mentioned, very clean, nice staff, visible security-really an excellent choice.

We had a long day on the road when we finally arrived at the Hyatt on Friday July 28th. Mapquest got us almost there, then we weren't sure where to park and check in, so when we entrusted our car out front , then walked in, we weren't too sure if we were in the right place, but boy were we glad we were. The lobby literally blew us away, it was so beautiful and unlike any other lobby we've ever seen. I was a giddy, excited girl checking in, hardly able to believe our Priceline luck to be checking into such a cool place for a $57 Priceline bid. The nice guy checking us in didn't even search for our hame, he acted like he was waiting for us (a very nice touch)....when he told us that we not only got a king, no-smoking room like we wanted, but that it was a lake-view one, I was beside myself. We gladly paid the $12 parking fee, and listened carefully for directions to the parking lot and to our room. Or so we thought. The parking lot was easy. Right around the corner. We lugged our luggage through the side entrance of the mall, and went right where we thought the Hyatt Hotel was. It wasn't there. Or there, or there either. Finally we asked at information, and well....the hotel was right...there. Hindsight is 20/20. We swiped our card to get into the hotel area, then walked, and walked, and walked, and walked, and turned and walked more. It was similar to a hotel in Vegas. Our room turned out to be the farthest on the first floor, at the end. We opened the door, and were confronted with a horrible mildew smell. But a really nice room. Everything was perfect except for the nasty smell. We looked outside our window and could see the possible source of the smell....we were at the end of the lake where it was stagnant, and icky looking (although fish were swimming in it). Honestly, we were too tired and hungry to care to do anything but go get dinner at the Hard Rock Hotel, then crash for the night. Despite the mildew smell, we LOVED this hotel. We loved the charm of the lobby....we had a drink in the historic lobby and were blown-away once again by its beauty....we thought the location of being in a mall was really cool as well. It's the kind of place we would've found by mistake in a city, and said "we should go back and stay there sometime".
We didn't get to use the pool, but it looked really nice. I think this would be a great location for families. Kids could use the pool, and the mall has some great kid things. The next morning we had a delightful breakfast at the hotel restaurant. It was a bit pricey, but excellent quality and perfectly charming.
We loved this hotel. We loved that it was connected to a mall. We loved that it was historic. We would love to go back, although wwe'd probably ask to have a room that wasn't near the stagnant part of the lake.

We travelled Route 66 in throughout July and this was our best value hotel out of 13. We booked though Hotwire and paid $91 inc tax. The foyer which is the old Grand Union Station is stunning and has an excellent little cocktail bar. The rooms are very clean and spacious is not the word, our room was huge with the same beds now being installed as doubletree use(they were waiting for the valances to be fitted t the beds). All the furniture looked new and on the back of the door it quoted maximum rack rate as being $400. Not only would we stay here again we would make an effort to make sure we did.

We stayed here this past weekend and absolutely loved it. The customer service was superb. When we checked in we asked about a restaurant and its location. The front desk immediately asked if we would like to have a mapquest directional report printed for our convenience. We also mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary and shortly thereafter we received champaign delivered to our room. What a nice touch!! After reading some of the reviews we must have gotten a newer room because everything was updated. The room had granite countertops, new beds, and new cherry wood furniture. The central location was also very convienant. We would definitely stay here again without reservation.

Stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Union Station recently. My fiancee and I flew into the airport. We took the train from the airport to Union Station. It's around a 30 minute ride, and only costs $3.25 a ticket. Not a bad ride, but you do go through some "sketchy" stops along the way. The mall is kind of run-down, and there's something about the floor that just reminds me of dirt. However, nestled inside of this mall is a nice hotel. We enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, the bathroom was spacious, and the lobby area was very nice. Cabs are avaialbe fairly regularly. I wouldn't walk around downtown St. Louis too much. It's not very developed, and it's kind of a ghostown in certain places.

I stayed at the Hyatt for a conference and it was my first time staying anywhere except Marriott.

The room was clean and comfortable which is all I need for 3 days but I missed the 'little things' you get at Marriott such as a refridgerator and safe. Also the room was very dark - they should invest in higher wattage bulbs.

The hotel itself was so-so. The carpets were worn and dirty and the elevator was as slow as molasses. I also didn't like the fact that I had to walk thru a mall to get from my room to the main area.

The gym was a converted guest room and there was no ventilation. I don't think I have ever sweat so much. They had state of the art cardio equipment (2 treadmills, 2 bikes and 2 ellipticals) but the weights are limited.

The food at the conference was ok. I didn't like the breakfast selection - all cakes and muffins, nothing healthy. But I don't know how much of that was the hotel's fault and how much was from the people running the conference. The first day we had a wide buffet of hot foods for lunch and the next day was sandwiches which was disappointing.

There's not much to do in the area. Down the block is Lombardo's which is a high end restaurant and although pricey they had very good food.

Bailey's Chocolate Bar and Hodak's were pretty good but you need to take a cab to get there.

All in all you could do worse but I wouldn't recommend it for more than a few days.
