“Good hotel, great location, great service and INCREDIBLE gym!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2014

I was in St. Louis on business and wanted a change from my usual Holiday Inn Express so got a room here on Priceline for $109 so I could also go to the Blues game that night. The location is great being right downtown (walked over to the Scott Trade Center for the game) with Hard Rock out back and the hotel has a great historic look being in Union Station. The front desk was VERY prompt on having my room key ready (tasty chocolate chip cookie too!) and was very friendly. The room was "good" but you could tell it was an older room with the steel door frames, wall paper, etc. Not bad and definitely wouldn't complain for the rate I got.
If you're into fitness and find it hard getting in a workout on the road with other hotels' "fitness centers" that consist of a worn out treadmill and rusty multi-station then stay here! The gym was first class all the way! Clean, well laid out, modern and consisted of MANY treadmills, free weights, machines AND they have fresh fruit, bottled water and cooled towels! It rivals many clubs I've seen and I was VERY impressed!
I'd stay here again and recommend it!

We live in Texas and enjoy hockey. My husband decided to go to see the St. Louis Blues play hockey for a home game. We flew from Houston and arrived at the airport. We took public transportation (Metro train) for a very reasonable price < $10 for both travelers. The train stopped just short of the original tracks of Union Station. We walked across the street to the rear of the hotel with baggage, but it was a very easy walk. We had asked for a room on the Concierge Level. Our room was in the original station house on the third floor. We overlooked the fountain on Market Street. The hotel is quite the grand dame, ornate, elegant, I'm at a loss for words! . We would not have made any changes in our accommodations AT ALL ! We were steps away from the Concierge lounge which offered appetizers in the evening that filled us as much as a light dinner (we are both 60+) and in the morning with a lovely hot breakfast and/or continental breakfast. On the weekend, we were given coupons for our breakfast in the main dining hall for complimentary breakfast buffet, because the concierge lounge was closed on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Excellent breakfasts.

The staff at the front desk were exemplary. The staff in the concierge lounge were most gracious. We ate at the main dining room one evening and were treated like royalty. The lobby staff approached us taking pictures of the incredible lobby and invited us on small tours of the building..two people, two different points of view, two interesting stories.

It is sad that the little destination shopping mall (where the tracks used to be, behind the original train station) probably was not making enough money to support the cute stores and boutiques. We enjoyed the shops that were still there and enjoyed giving them our business.

The folks at the Double Tree will bend over backwards to meet any need. We will definitely go back and return with our college aged daughter.

Even though it was a cold weekend in St. Louis, my husband and I walked to the Gateway Arch, and took the Metro trains to two areas of St. Louis to tour the beautiful Cathedral Basilica and The Loop area of town. We are avid walkers and senior citizens and it is entirely possible to enjoy St. Louis without a car! The stadium where The Blues were playing is just a short walk and we felt very safe walking outdoors at night.

But my only tip: ask to stay in the original Union Station building. There are suitable hotel units built in the back where the original train tracks were, but they lack the ambiance of the original building. Also, they are going to refurbish the original building's lobby and rooms. I'd guess that during 2014 you could be disappointed. Ask if the work has been completed before you book. I give it two thumbs up and really hope to return.

Oh, one last thing...the cookies at check-in are the best ever!!

Room Tip: We loved our room on the Market Street side of the original train station. Be careful not to get st...

I stayed here last year with my family, We had a double room so two double beds. The hotel is visually amazing, a fantasic bar and a fantastic swimming pool. It was still hot when we stayed but air con in the rooms was great and it was lovely to get in the pool after a trip up The Arch. Would definately stay here if we came to St Louis again

This hotel is an excellent choice to travel to St. Louis to watch the St. Louis Blues. Walking distance to Scottrade Center. An excellent Hard Rock Café located behind Hotel. The hotel is connected to a mall that gives you shops to buy items with local theme. Located next to Metro-link train service to the Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium. Walking distance to World War Museum. Located next to large U.S. Post Office, where you can ship items that were purchased during visit to St. Louis, this saves on airline baggage charges. Hotel provides a quiet, relaxing atmosphere.

Very dirty hotel, mold in bath. No fridge, indoor pool, no free breakfast. Staff was rude (except door people) and not helpful. Would not recommend to any. Stay somewhere else. Bed bugs found on same floor we were staying on.

I spent the better part of the week at this hotel and have to say it was amazing. I've stayed at five star hotels that were not nearly as well maintained, organized, or as beautiful. The staff goes out of their way to treat you with respect. Ask Daniel to make you a drink at Fred Harvey Restaurant. Pretty amazing mixologist! The Grand Hall is an amazing "lobby". The amount of old art deco is mind blowing. All in all, this will not be the last time I stay in this hotel. Thank you for a great experience!
