“Would stay again”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Doubletree Union Station. We were there for a wedding. I was constantly impressed with the service. The wedding reception was held in the big hall, which is jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and the whole evening went off without a hitch. The front desk staff was helpful, the bell men had cold water waiting for us after a hot run around the arch, and the swimming pool area was clean and well-maintained.

Yes, there are renovations going on near the guest rooms, but all hotels need to be updated, so this is part of the process.

The breakfast buffet was fantastic, though the hotel seems to find it difficult to manage the crowds in the AM, despite a fairly large restaurant. Not quite sure what the issue is there.

Easy access to hotel via metro link, and its within 1.5 miles of the arch and the baseball stadium. Overall, very pleased with our stay.

Hello,

Thank you so much for the great review! We agree that the associates are amazing and the Grand Hall is beautiful. We will certainly look into the restaurant issue you reported. Please let us know when you would like to come back again.

Here's what you need to know. Parking is $14 a night. You have to park in the back parking lot and the ONLY way to get to your room is to trek through the entire mall, which is horribly depressing because it's shutting down and emptyish. Don't forget anything in your car unless you want to walk a half mile (not kidding) to get it. The service was fine, they handed you chocolate chip cookies at check-in probably to compensate for the construction everywhere. The room was renovated but still old. Gold fixtures. No big. Just blah.

Hello,

I apologize that the self parking was so inconvenient. We do have two self parking lots and one is a tad bit closer located on the side of the hotel. The hotel also offers Valet parking at $24 which is very convenient. With regards to the warm DoubleTree Chocolate chip cookie that is a standard at all DoubleTree Hotels worldwide and we are happy you enjoyed it. We are working on improving the hotel and will undergo a full rooms renovation beginning in the Fall. I hope that if your travels bring you back to St.Louis you will come see us again.

Warm regards,
Rose

This is the second time we traveled with our family dog and this was a great place for us. They have a great "dog" garden where I could walk her. Just be sure to ask to be close to it when you reserve a room because we had a 5 minute walk to it. The hotel was super clean, I did NOT feel like it was a doggy hotel at all. Oh & the pool is fun with all the toys too!

This hotel is undergoing renovations. One morning, we heard the workers around 7 a.m. That's a little early, I think. But that is no excuse for mold on the air conditioning vent in the guest room, a peeling and very slippery tub liner, a panel in the closet ceiling that exposes the guest to the innards, or poor housekeeping (dirty glass topped table, bathroom floor that wasn't cleaned for days, dirty glasses not removed & replaced with clean ones). Plus, the renovations are stirring up all sorts of dust and affecting people with allergies quite seriously. The food in the restaurant was ok. The only saving grace was the room service waiter, Kevin. He was extremely professional, courteous, and hospitable. The location isn't great as it is not really in downtown. While getting to Union Station on the metrolink from the airport was easy, once you get to the station, there is no signage directing you to the Doubletree Hotel.

Thank you for your review - I am so sorry about your experience with renovation; there are few rooms that can actually hear the construction and we did receive feedback the workers started early last week. A new fine has been put in place for the contractors if they begin before 8:30am. Please accept my apologies for the unexpected wake-up call. Reading your experience I'm concerned and interested to discover the Room Attendant and Inspector assigned to your floor. If ever a room is found to be in this type of condition it is taken out of Inventory until all these items are corrected. Please know that these conditions are NOT THE NORM by any means and will be found and corrected this week. I wish you had the opportunity to interact with more of our staff--you would find Kevin is not the only 5-Star Associate and is one of many that make stays at the Station memorable.

The train station lobby is absolutely beautiful and employees are helpful and responsive and that is the highlight. The hotel is under renovations and sometimes at the inconvenience of the guest and the rooms are a disaster. Tired and outdated hotel rooms do not deliever the price value. Maybe next year, but not now.

Room Tip: Rooms in the historic part of the complex are renovated and charming. Forget about the other rooms...

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. Your kind comments about the beauty of the hotel and the responsive staff are RIGHT ON!! What you experience here you will be hard-tested to find elsewhere. Just stepping into our lobby transcends space and time and helps a traveler feel like they are staying somewhere so much more than a "just a hotel". We have 539 rooms and reading your review it seems your room did not meet expectations; I am very sorry for that impression. From room to room you'll find differences throughout the property--it adds to the charm of the experience.

This is the first hotel we stayed in on our annual USA summer holiday. The hotel is very impressive and has a number of great attributes, from the building itself to the service from the staff.

The hotel has a great pool area which we used everyday because we have our children with us. There is free bottled water which was appreciated during the recent high temperatures. A member of staff was always on hand to keep the place neat and tidy and Harry was particularly helpful in this respect.

We stayed in a double room overlooking the pool area. It was quite large with plenty of room to move around in. The room had a fridge. The bathroom was again large with a separate toilet area. The rom was ver clean and well maintained.

Our room rate included breakfast. Breakfast is in the Station Grille which is a particularly nice setting. Service is excellent and the quality of the food the same.

The grand hall is particularly impressive. It houses the bar and sitting area. The food and service is excellent and Josh was very helpful.

The hotel is well located even if is not exactly located downtown. As English people we walk everywhere, the arch is probably 20/25 mins walk; Busch Stadium 15/20 mins. There is no problem with the area and security. If you have any issue about where to go ask the valet staff they are superb. I can't mention everyone but Gerry is top notch.

A couple of points for fellow travellers having looked at other reviews.

1. The hotel is not dated and is well maintained.
2. The current renovations don't cause any inconvenience.
3. The walk to the rooms is not a problem.

I would definitely stay in this hotel again.

This hotel is a great location for a business conference. Not only do you receive excellent service, great food and clean room accommodations but you have easy access to the downtown and nearby shopping areas. This was my first time staying at this hotel but I can see why they have a Four Diamond rating. It is well deserved.
