“Great experience until we received the bill”
Reviewed July 7, 2012

The mansion is beautiful and is a nice place to go for a special occasion or date. By boyfriend and I went for dinner. The food was excellent. Toasted ravioli was home-made and was delicious - definately recommended although a bit pricey. ($10.00 for 5) He had Shrimp Ala Rene pasta that he enjoyed and I had the Chicken Lillian which was very tastey. Wait service was attentive. Experience was very pleasurable and we had decided that this would be a place we would return until we received the bll.

We used an entertainment discount card for $10.00 off our dinner. When we received the bill, we discovered that they automatically charged an 18% tip on the entire meal including a bottle of wine and drinks. (We did get a copy of the menu and found fine print that said 18% gratuity would be charged when using discounts/coupons). Then they charged sales tax for the entire amount (including the 18% tip amount). When questioned, the waiter was quick to provide a laminated copy of MO law to try and justify charging tax on a tip. In all my years of going to restaurants in MO (I am a resident of MO), I've never been to a restaurant in which sales tax was charged on a tip amount or an automatic gratuity charged on wine/liquor. By using a entertainment discount card, we spent more for dinner than if we had not used it. We would not have tipped on liquor and sales tax would not have been charged on the tip.

For a restaurant that is obviously hurting for business (only 3 other tables occupied on a Saturday night), this attempt to bleed every possible cent out of customers certainly won't help future business. The restaurant prices are already quite high but to charge even more (excessive tip and tax) explains why there was a lack of customers. Out of the 4 occupied tables, half of the customers were all questioning the tax/tip charges on their bills.

No matter how pleasurable the food and atmosphere is I likely will not return because of their method of billing and calculating charges due.

“Great food, beautiful home, and haunted history”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

The Lemp Mansion in St. Louis, is one of the ten most haunted places in America. It has long history that I suggest you read about before your visit. Over the years, the mansion was transformed from the stately home of millionaires, to office space, decaying into a run-down boarding house, and finally restored to its current state as a fine dinner theatre, restaurant and bed and breakfast. There are 5 bedrooms where you can spend the night, a venue for weddings and other events. They have a murder mystery dinner theatre that you can attend or you can rent an entire room for private murder mysteries.
You are allowed to tour the entire structure all the way from the basement up to the attic. There is also a museum on site with items from their history.
What I really want to tell you is about the Sunday Dinner. First of all, come HUNGRY. The cost per person is $16.95. The meal is served family style. You can eat as much as you want. The menu is: Pan Fried Chicken, Pineapple Glazed Ham, Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoes, Milk Gravy, German Style Green Beans, Whole Kernel Corn, Stewed Cinnamon Apples, Marinated Vegetable Salad, Cole Slaw, Buttermilk Biscuits. Drinks are sold separately. The food is wonderful and the service is outstanding! The Stewed Cinnamon Apples are almost as good as a dessert. The mashed potatoes are homemade. The gravy is fantastic and I've thought about just eating that with a spoon! I have seen people dressed in their Sunday best and people in Jeans. You might want to make a reservation for the Sunday dinner so that you don't have to wait in line. This is really a don't miss location. Here is a link that you may find helpful: http://www.lempmansion.com/index.html. You can also Google the Lemp Mansion to see all kinds of pictures of the building. One last thing. As you face the mansion, on your right is a tree that has been there for more than 100 years. It is a Japanese Globe Locust Tree. These trees normally are much taller, but do to manipulation of the roots at that time, the tree is much smaller. Students studying Horticulture often come to see this tree as it is one of a kind.

Not sure what other reviews experienced, but we had outstanding service and a great meal! Definitely worth a stop! Nice museum of the past owners along with some of the paranormal information of the place.

“Sunday Supper location”
Reviewed February 29, 2012

Unfortunately there were no ghost sightings during our visit to this Haunted house. On Sundays the Lemp Mansion does a family style supper. There are so many plates of food brought to the table it is crazy. The food was good and good value for the price. A little off the beaten path but a unique experience on a Sunday morning

Love the history and architecture of St. Louis. I got the french onion soup and the steak sandwich. It is a beautiful place to have a relaxing lunch.
