High marks for the food, mediocre service. Saturday night, 8:00, restaurant half full … and waiter very slow to get to us. His attitude was tepid, almost disinterested through all the service. Sort of pro forma.

But the food was excellent. Brie beignets to start with along with a side order of the beets which we shared. Main courses were ribeye steak and frites (with enough to take home for lunch the next day), sous vide skate wing, and mushroom pot au feu. All great. Dessert was tart ratine which was okay.

Wines are a bit pricey, but to be expected. We had a lovely French pinot noir.

Botto line: we recommend, but hope you don't get the waiter we had.

Took 45 min. just to get appetizer. Onion soup tasted burned, cheese was brown. Beans in cassoulet were lukewarm and skinny slices of sausage on top of the beans were scorched black & very dry. Very poor service. Waiter inattentive & totally forgot husband's 2nd drink order. Restaurant has open kitchen concept & just seemed smokey. Tables for 2 people were very small with barely enough room for the food. Only good thing of the evening was tasty duck in the cassoulet. With the slowness of the service & the smokey room we did not dare send our meals back , , , we just wanted to get out of there. There are so many good restaurants in St. Louis & this definitely is not one of them.

I visited this french restaurant in Soulard downtown area this weekend and the whole experience was good , excellent food and service and quiet ambience , We started with the French onion soup gratinee as appetizer and later we ordered as main dishes the Grilled Missouri Rainbow Trout , Grilled Rib Eye , Confit Au Poulet and the Busque Seafood Stew , all well cooked and delicious and we finish with the Tahitian Vanilla Creme Brulee,as dessert , overall prices are adequate and my family enjoy the french cousine dishes very much.

We both had the mussels...not the best we've ever had, but good. The decor was nice and we enjoyed a quiet early dinner. We walked about 2 miles from the Embassy Suites on N. 7th Street to the restaurant and passed by the baseball stadium on the way.

Franco is that hidden gem in Soulard downtown St. Louis. Wonderful drinks and food.
Our group enjoyed all the salads (Caesar salad, scallop salad and trotters salad).
Cassoulet is their most popular dinner option and is great. Two had the special seafood entree and one steak dinner was ordered. A casual fun place where food is really good. They always have a wonderful trout option and always have a foi gras of the night. The drinks here are very good and some are unual.
